Jo is using foil paper for this model and I would suggest foil kami for your model as well. I used regular paper on my first attempt and because of the many layered leg folds on the underneath, the final shaping and molding didn't hold and the beetle wants to lay flat. Foil is harder to work with, especially the reverse folds, but foil holds it's shape better in the end. Nice design Jo and I really like the big jaws and beak on this Hercules Beetle.

I connected 4 A4 pieces together and that worked. Maybe trying a bigger paper size with printer paper will help.

PERFECT !!! As incredible as it may sound, it can really be made ! It is the best origami I have ever done. My favourite is from 26:00 to 26:30, Magic !

Strongly agree! A magnificent transformation. Though I will say that the first time I attempted this fold I somehow managed to rip the model clean in half. Fortunately I nailed it the 2nd time around.

I`m so happy that I could follow you (in slow motion) because I`m a beginner, folding just for a month. So happy about the result, not perfect but I will try again with foil paper that I just ordered.

Wonderful model! I finally made it after almost two hours and, wanna laugh? At the first try, when I reached the point where you spread open the model to make the belly I realized I inverted the sides! I had to start it all over again, damn' me! by the way, my model look shorter than yours. I still have to work a lot on it. A really great thank to you, Mr. Jo.

I just did it and it was not easy, complex but not so much as you said. However I used thin paper (70g) and my beetle looked not as nice as yours. I've to buy the copper tissue foil paper from Origami-shop. Thanks for the vid anyway, great tuto as always :)

Golden Fire Origami if it's too thick you can simply reverse fold the tips instead of pleating and narrowing

You hav to unfold the whole side and with the new crease you made you fold it inside and then you put the other fold just like before

Before I waste my paper, can I use two sided origami paper if I only want one side to show? Ima use gold on one side and white on the other, and I dont want white to be visible

i used thicker- crafting paper and i still was able to do it but it ripped quite alot and the abdomen didnt curve, the end just was a big hole. still fun to learn :) very good video! good instructions ! any tips on what the best paper is to use for more intricate origamis like this one? (and one that isnt very expensive)

Shaping the body is pretty hard, but after the second attempt, it's not a matter anymore. But for shaping the legs, the paper will be very thick and be very hard to fold. Edit: I finished it omggggg

I personally find of much easier to blintz the square at the beginning with the white on the outside and then make a square base with the raw edges on the outside And then make a frog base with that Unfold it all and collapse it back down and you will have the progress at19:07
