Original BBC Doctor Who TARDIS, BESSIE, WHOMOBILE and 2 DALEKS!

At the famous National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK, Lord Montagu brought together the original 1970's Doctor Who vehicles 'Bessie' and the 'Whomobile, plus a 1960's BBC Dalek which faced every Doctor in the Classic (1963-1989) series.
AND there was a BBC TARDIS used by Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. The display celebrated the Sixtieth Anniversary of the hit TV show and ended at the end of February 2024. It was included in the main admission fee.
The fabulously futuristic Whomobile was Doctor number three - Jon Pertwee’s transport in two episodes of Doctor Who in the early 1970s: 'Invasion Of The Dinosaurs' and Pertwee's final story 'Planet of the Spiders'.
It was commissioned by Pertwee and built by custom car builder Peter Farries. It arrived at Beaulieu with a flat tyre. 'Vintage Tyres' replaced the 155/80R12 tyre enabling the car to travel through time and space all the way from the 'Vintage Tyres’ workshop to the front atrium of the museum by the main entrance. Underneath, the Whomobile is a three-wheeler chassis, powered by a Hillman Imp engine.
Note: This display has now ended. However, my replica Genesis Dalek is still there, beside Bessie and Sarah Jane Smith's Austin Metro in the 'Screen Cars' area at the Museum.

It’s so nice to know that Bessie can still run fine. If only Kate Stewart could give her a drive. Also, great to know the Whomobile is still around, after Jon Pertwee took it home.

Completely agree. Lovely seeing Bessie driving around once again. There's a chance the Whomobile may get a mechanical overhaul once the exhibition ends, to enable her to also run again.

Hopefully I'm going to be heading there tomorrow, I cannot pass up a chance to see the original Dalek 1-7, who's not only been a key part of Dalek prop history, but would be the third prop I've seen irl from Remembrance

Enjoy your visit! If you peep (from the Tardis side) through the gap, you can see some of 1-7's original 1965 Shawcraft hemispheres on the back section. I took the black caps off, to add interest, but it's not an easy feature to see.

It’s lovely seeing 1-7 out and about! A shame more surviving Daleks don’t get sent out as often, I’d love to see the surviving Dead Planet skirt someday!

Fantastic! Is 1-7 likely to be featured in any other exhibits? I’ve not seen it since the second Blackpool exhibition before it was made whole again and would love to see it like this

The hope is that 1-7 can remain at Beaulieu, but displayed in another area, so you should be able to see it throughout the summer.@@unimpressedlink2507

The current plan is for 1-7 to remain on show, but in a different part of the museum, so you have several months to see it@@DAVID197300

Chris , I'm In the US, looking for closeup pics of the Whomobile , I am building one full size . do you know where I can find them?

Hi Danny. That's a tricky one. If I'd known, I could have taken loads of pics while Bessie was in the Beaulieu workshop prior to the exhibition. She's still at Beaulieu, but more difficult to get views, as she's against a wall with a barrier infront. Also, are you doing Bessie as she ended up (bigger engine/enlarged front) or as she started life? Let me know if I can help. You can find my contact details easily via Google 🙂

@@TheChrisBalcombe I 3d printed the Bessie, but a guy who owns the mold to the Bessie said ; no one can build a bessie without his permission. So the Bessie is still in peaces right now .The Whomobile has always been the car I was looking for ,so little is known about her, nothing about her running gear.
