This was apparently a 'one owner' collection. It included a genuine 1960's Dalek which featured in the second Dalek big-screen film starring Peter Cushing: 'Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD'.
The Daleks' fiendish plot against Earth and its people is foiled when Cushing's Doctor and friends arrive from the 1960's.
The director was Gordon Flemyng. Writers: Terry Nation (from the BBCtv serial), Milton Subotsky (screenplay).
There was little provenance on the items on offer. Just the odd 'PropStore of London' COA, and a few items 'provenance Stuart Evans'.
Thus, in some cases, people were bidding blind, but that didn't stop some astonishing prices being realised.
The Dalek was originally silver, with blue skirt hemispheres in the film. It had been won by someone who entered a Sugar Puffs contest to 'Win a real Dalek' back in the sixties.
The collection owner, from London, was said to not have attended, so could not be asked about the origins of pieces in his collection. Some items were clearly replicas, or were composed of part replica/part original ingredients. Those with replica parts were not detailed as such in the auction listings. An Ice Warrior costume described as original was later proved to be an excellent fan-built replica.
But the Dalek was genuine, and sold for £38,000 including the auction house premium.
I know, as I was the other room bidder waving my paddle in the air. I had to back out at £31,000, otherwise I'd have had to sell my house, but the other guy, I reckon, would have gone far higher.
The huge collection of items sold for almost £90,000 in total.
(In the video, I mistakenly refer to actor Hilary Minster being an 'actress'. My apologies. Recording an entirely new soundtrack was too time consuming.
Also the video (moving) footage has a slight colour balance issue, giving the Dalek a slightly orange colour. The real colour - red - can be seen in the still photos included.
