I don’t think that today’s Theravada Buddhism is in line with original teachings as well. Most of it is based on Abhidhamma not the Suttas.

There are only one sama sambuddha arise at a time. But there are thousand of paccekka buddha can arise in the same time. That is the different of Samasambuddha and between Paccekka Buddha. For samasambuddha to arise, human life span is short but when the time of paccekka buddha time to arise, human live span is 1000 year and more. That is why the paccekka will not be giving dhamma talk at that time. When himan life is long less human is even more ignorance. BUDDHAM SARANAM GACCHAMI

I need some clarification on monks wanting to become buddas. As I understood it, there can be only one buddha at a time. A single buddha only appears when there is the NEED for a buddha. There is a need for a buddha when the path to enlightenment has been forgotten. The Buddha's function is to rediscover this path and provide the world with teachings that show this path. As long as the teachings exist and are known, there is no need for additional buddhas to rediscover them. If my basic understanding is correct, how could the monks overlook this simple and basic function of a buddha?

From what I could understand in the video, I think those monks who wanted to break the Vinaya rules made up that excuse that they wanted to be a buddha to help the masses. To get the lay devotees to continue to support them. The lay devotees that time thought that was the truth.

Buddha is teacher, you become serious student if you become monk, your goal is end of samsara not to become buddha but of course if you reach the end of samsara in this life you are enlightened or buddha but not THE BUDDHA, I think you were looking for this answer

That is awakening. It happens only in some cases In other cases they die without it. In all cases it Does not matter.

The very original teachings of the Buddha started to be modified from 100 years after his parinibbana. Today, what is left of it is preserved in the Sutta Pitaka (discourses) and Vinaya Pitaka (monastic rules). There are umpteen thousand discourses.

@Kosem72 Buddhism does not recognise Atman. As long as you have a sense of self, you can never be enlightened.

@Kosem72 that’s the funny thing. Some of these people claiming to be Buddhist can’t read ancient Pali at all. That language has been dead so long how can you honestly rely on later sects or an English translation by Western Europeans.

@@bhikkhujinavamsa8901 neti-neti is a retroductive style of logic which literally means “not this, not that”. In essence, it is a way of coming to know the true nature of something by saying what it is not;By Way of negation. Since the soul is ontologically subjective it cannot be objectively described. It can only be experienced as a state of pure subjectivity. No objects… just Soul or Atman(Self).

@Siyovaxsh En-sipad-zid-ana “Never shall this prevail, that something can come from nothing” -Parmenides (Greek Philosopher) There MUST BE an unchanging absolute principle in nature from which all things emerge. You CANNOT have liberation without that which attains liberation. The Buddhas teaching were corrupted by idiots who could not grasp the sublime nature of what he was saying.

@@sumadbarua6486 Read the Vivekachudamani of Sri Shankaracharya to see how the proper discernment takes place.... you cannot deny the witness the Self/Atman of the mental modifications... there IS an Atman You are the Atman....not the flesh and blood but the Subject....

@MuMuWu if Atman is Maya then how is rebirth possible. “Re” means “again” and you can only use the word again if the same person has the same experience twice. If the self is impermanent how could it “re”-birth😂😂😂 you are silly.
