(Update late 2013 - buildings been demolished, which is probably why they didn't update the lifts!)

This vid continues on from my teaser video posted a few weeks ago.
...answers to the questions:
Q: Did the lift go out of service after doors didn't open?
A: No
(here's the big one...)
Q: Lift motor room access?
A: No :(
The lift kept arriving at the ground floor and the doors did not open, but despite many attempts to get this on film from the inside - I failed and the doors opened everytime :/
Acknowledgement to Harri Healey for sniffing out this place (well not literally, hmmm 5:40 or maybe not?) and finding these lifts.

I believe they 'were' touch sensitive, but they are actually push buttons (used to have these in the lifts at Canary Whaft (one canada square) back in the 90s)

I nearly managed to get into that motor room, but didn't want to damage the hatch too much. I always spend a lot of time and effort matching music to videos - the theme the timing, always a challenge but I enjoy doing it. Unfortunately the music also went down with youtube's copyright scanner and it was flagged. Some of my older videos were muted. I don't use main stream music anymore which is a shame, but youtube has loads of music in its library now. Took ages to go through about 800 music tracks

Btw I forgot to tell you but this video actually bears some resblemblence to the video of the lifts I asked for help of the project. Will start working on it in October.

And these had that same layout as the old cable lift/elevator where the call buttons are really high to prevent kids from playing with them willy nilly

Those place's give me the creeps,no wonder people suffer with depression who live in that environment ,though with some of the tenants you get you wonder what the point of anything nice as it is like a red flag to a bull to some of them and pity the poor lift engineer he has a thankless job looking after this type of installation.

Would you say such council blocks would have most of their lifts affected by modernisation in the late 1990s right? Even though I don’t live in the uk I can see 1960s/70s council blocks lift have mostly received a mod in the late 1990s with green indicators. Is there a name for the projects where they modernise the lifts?

Nope, depends on the landlord, the current regulations that the lifts are expected to work to and if they are costing too much money to maintain if they are old. I would say that most council block lifts (from the 60s/70s) were modernised during the 2000s (from my observations)

This mustve been that more expensive relay logic where it can register multiple calls at one time because at the end you pressed ground and LG and it registered both buttons

Only The ground floor appeared to have a floor indicator the other floors didn't seem to have one

And I actually thought these had lester controls aka the less expensive relay system that cant hold multiple calls but maybe these were installed when the more expensive system was avalible

This is elevator is terrible, no wonder re-installed with it this lift... You know what, that is going to be a death trap like hard single brake stops the level floor is... What the heck! 😓

In West Germany the government pays a flat of a certain size (x m² per person) but you can choose it yourself as long as the rental is in that limit, so I am not used to buildings owned by the state and being totally controlled by it. In East Germany however, the government built a lot of these concrete slab building and they are now used for that. Not that they have been errected for that purpose, but after the wall fell 25 years ago, people went away from these into "normal" houses/buildings and there was a lot of appartment vacancies, plus they offer all modern living qualities yet in a cheap fashion. *Thank you* for responding to my question, my friggin dicitionary left me totally in the dark. After fiddling around with different sources I still failed to get a clear answer. I guessed something like that from the looks of the building, but I was unsure if there were actually only the poor (financial and social-wise) in it. The situation you descried sounds more like these Sinti or Roma, Bulgarian, Romanian etc. guys who are just here to grab cash and easy living instead of actual integration and work income.

I even bet that because the building was pretty much in shambles thats why they tore it down it wasnt really the condition these lifts/elevators were in because these couldve been replaced if they found a way to pry the machine room door open again and a fresh paint and restoration job couldve been done and I hope whatever was built in place of this building would have something decent and not their cheap modern day crap but yet again I wont be able to tell you because I dont live there and I dont plan to any time soon

There comes a point when a building, especially ones like this which are completely run down, it's easier to knock it down and start again. I did try to get up into that motor room but the trap doors were screwed down :(

I remember years ago I had a dream I came all the way up there from the US and I had one of my friends with me and the building was still up but I couldnt get in because it was fenced off and the construction workers were getting the excavator ready to knock it down but I didnt really care too much because the building looked even more abandoned than it was when you went in.
