I remember seeing this Les Paul when it was first for sale about 3 years ago. Back then, I believe I just blindly accepted it as a really cool custom finish - however, now that I'm a little more seasoned and experience, I believe this guitar is an old refinish job. The serial number is the biggest thing. In 1976, there were a few types of serial numbers out there, but I've never seen one that looked like this one. The font is just off to be an original Gibson Serial Number Decal. I usually give every guitar a 1- anomaly pass - but this guitar has many other replaced parts as well which increased the likelihood that it is a good refinish job fairly early on in it's life since the lacquer as already aged quite a bit.
I could be wrong though - without seeing it in person, it is too hard to tell. It might be a shortly lived decal that I haven't seen yet and the replaced parts are simply that... replaced parts.
I wish this was verifiable as the real deal because I would've already bought it if it was!

It's a fake Gibson the s is to slim it needs to be thick like this *s* and in the o there's a little gap and not in this one there's two more red flags

Hi my dad passed away five years ago now and in is collection he has the same green finish on his gibson, I'd have to dig it out but the head and how the serial numbers are different to the one in the video, I'd be happy to send pictures of the guitar and hopefully you could shed some light on the guitar, is this something you'd be interested in doing?

I'm 54 so I remember the 70's well.. the only manufacturer during the era that consistently made Green finish guitars was Baldwin/Burns.... I've never seen a Green LP from this era....

Trogly how did you get into buying and selling? And more importantly where did you learn all the ins and out? Forums? I buy and sell on the side small time (20-30 guitars a year) and I'm looking to learn more about model types, weird changes ect. Any good sources? Thanks

I can’t remember when I seen these maybe 90’s or so but I do believe Gibson made some green les Paul’s. I think it’s real the details are amazing. It’s an older looking guitar too its extremely hard to do something like this on your own especially with the age of this one. This may have been a demo or a special at a Gibson booth to showcase future models that were limited or a prototype. I would definitely contact Gibson. If it is one of those it would be in 10k-30k range in my opinion. If it’s a clone I’d still say 1000-1200 since it’s so good.

Hell yeah I rock it. I don't care what color it is man. It's all about sound and playability. That is basically the only thing that matters to me price isn't even an object. For me price could be an object cuz I can't afford an expensive guitar, but I can afford two grand for a really nice playing guitar. And if that's what it takes to get a good one I would do it. But I have a $600 Paul Reed Smith SE that plays like a dream and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Price didn't really matter to me sound and play a billy once again that's the most important thing. If this guitar sounds and plays well damn right I would rock it

Yup I would rock this! Not for that price since it is so questionable. Maybe its just me but did that volute look right? Seems to rounded? If you was to ask me about a green les paul I would say nope, but seeing this one, man I like it!! Remember I asked you about maybe purple? LOL this green one is what I mean about not really knowing until you see one in a certain color.

I have a 83 standard take pretty good care of it. Natural aging has caused a lot of small checking in the wine finish, also the Gibson logo has yellowed a bit more than this green custom, the Grover tuners look a lot like the Chinese grocers? Why would someone swap out original Les Paul pickups out of a clean guitar, and the wiring ? I think guitar custom Chinese made ?

I have an all original 1977 Cherry Sunburst Custom I purchased from the original owner in 1980. The font on the back of the headstock on this one looks nothing like mine which only has the serial and the Made in USA stamped into the wood. Also the speed knobs don't look original either. These looks similar but for sure not the same as mine. Without looking I'm pretty sure my tuners say Gibson on them.

First one I ever wanted was a deep jade green custom. Never seen another. This one is too bright green. I ended up with a 50th anniversary in wine red.

It was 1st time in Guitar center. it was my last. That was 8 months ago ...really it was. I don't know about guitars, but dude "1970's and green"!? The house my grandparents (moms side) bought in 1970 had all green shag carpet, and green painted walls. Also I believe my grandma said all the appliances were green . . . I've also seen other examples of the color green being favored a bunch in the 70's. But as for this guitar, I have no knowledge or expertise, but yeah it looks fake or like some shady business is behind it.

NOT. Too many 'not known's' l would say. The neck is a bit too flamey for a general production les Paul. I think if it is real, it would have ( more likely) been a wine red finish; they were more numorous in the 70s, I remember because I was lusting and lusting again for a custom during the 70's. It took me until 2004 to get the money to get one, because the kids had grown up. Phew.

Honestly I really don’t like the color. If I had it I would find out for sure if it was a refinish because if it’s original I’d sell it and if not it would be refinished again in any color but puke green.

The “made in USA” is the first thing I look for in that era. I wouldn’t pay $2500 for that guitar. Too many red flags and Ihate the color.

I would rock it but would not buy it. I am actually questioning it’s legitimacy of being a real LP Custom based on what the seller is showing. Gold plated hardware and the truss rod cover doesn’t mean it didn’t start its life something else. Serial number be damned.

what's wrong with you guys!..there's no fading of color where the pickup covers are..also check under the pick guard..my 1980 wine red has very distinct color fade in these areas.plus I've wore off most of the color on the neck!

This guitar has a lot of strikes against it. It's too bad really, it's a cool looking guitar. I've always wanted to find something I really liked in sort of an emerald green, but as you have pointed out, there are a lot of "flaws in the slaw". The hardware doesn't look original to anything I've seen from the 70's. What sets the alarm off for me is the condition of the hardware. Plated hardware tends to wear after years of consistent use. It looks way too good to be original.
