BUY THE SADDLE (ORIGINAL OR CARVED): amzn.to/3BqYSvC
When I was looking at buying these saddles I wanted a comparison but didn't find one. So when I got both I decided to make one. Both are great saddles, and I'm very happy which what brooks has to offer for the relatively low price. I also like that they are a vegan alternative to the old school leather saddles. I enjoyed riding both the original and the carved, and would probably recommend either of them, but I do personally prefer one over the other.

Great to see an Aussie reviewer of Brooks saddles! I've always used a traditional Brooks B17 leather saddle but with my new bike, like you mentioned, a B17 looks uncharacteristic to the bike. I decided to try the C17 (not carved) and I agree it's actually very comfortable. It looks and feel deceptively hard, but it's really nice to ride on and I commute to work every day. Thanks for the review.

Brooks saddles are constructed to act as a hammock for your pelvis (sit bones) and can vary in width. The cut outs are improved blood flow within your perineum. I have a 22 year old B17 Imperial, 2 year old vulcanized carved C15, and the carbon-railed 145mm carved C13 and the "cut-outs" are dependent on your anatomy and your riding intensity.

I don't really like the flexibility the cut out creates. But yep good info! I'd be surprised to get 22 years out of the cambium.

@@Matty.Freedom While I don't have experience with Brooks (I did have a B17 but sold it before installing it), I have a Selle Anatomica leather saddle with a cutout, and that thing flexes like you wouldn't believe. In fact, I had to raise my saddle up quite a bit to account for the flex. Now, for a faster/"racing" setup, this seat wouldn't work as you ideally need the bars much higher (like in a touring/randonneuring setup). But, if you're riding 12-18+ hours a day at zone 1/2 in a more upright position, then the comfort/flex would be preferable on the 'ol sitbones. On my road bike, I use a Selle Italia Max Superflow SLR seat, not something I'd use for back-to-back days of riding all day (I bought the Selle Anatomica to use on my gravel bike that I can easily convert to a randonneuring setup as I'm planning on riding Paris Brest Paris in 2023). I'll prob get the Selle Anatomica laced to remove some of the flex, but more to prevent chafing on my bib shorts than anything.

Yes! This! I have ridden on the B17 and without the cutout, the saddle rubs badly and I get terrible perineum sores. It feels like carpet burn. I Just got myself the C17 carved and so far it's not bad. I ride pretty aggressively on my drop bars but if I had a bike which sat more upright with straight bars, I could see the B17 working well. The leather is still more comfortable but I can't justify getting the leather one with a cutout. I read that the durability is bad with them.

I originally was looking at Specialized Roubaix (gravel) but couldn't find one because of the on-going shortage of bike availability. I ended up going with a Cervélo bike. I'll be honest, I traditionally ride a mountain bike but I legit watched you and Taylor doing the century ride and immediately put that on my bucket list lol so had to get a road/gravel bike (can't imagine doing a century on my mountain bike). Ironically the first gravel race this year is a 60 miler that I can't/won't use the Cervélo lol. Story of my life yikes. Sorry about the story time lol. You should do a bike set up video on your Cannondale.

I had the first model of c17 for years before getting stolen, it was too stiff and wanted something softer, i'm thinking to buy the one with the cut, is it that bad? I also had the sliding problem but tilting it up is much worse.
@Matty.Freedom
@Matty.Freedom 3 жыл бұрын
The saddle isn't really softer with the cut out but it is more flexible in the middle. So you will probably feel less of the road bumps. I've found the sliding improved by tilting back since I made this video. You could give it a try and sell it on marketplace if you don't like it. You should be able to get close to new price anyway.

A poor bike fit will mean you're unlikely ever to feel comfortable on your bike, true, but the comfort offered by the C15 vs the C17 will probably have more to do with the width of your sit bones, with wider sit bones usually requiring a wider saddle. I have the C17 cut-out model and don't find myself sliding forward, perhaps because I followed Brooks' advice and tilted the nose up a bit. In terms of Brooks' leather saddles, the C17 feels much more like the Pro model than the B17 (I have both).

Sliding forward is not a result of width, but of level. Instead of the foolish advice to "level" the seat seen on too many videos by fools, you want the seat tilted slightly backward to prevent sliding forward depending on your common seated position - especially if you ever ride hands free or sitting up for a few minutes to alter your spinal position.
