It was emotional, had good lighting symbolism (the red and blue lights symbolizing both sides of the force etc), and the sun completely disappearing to only let darkness fill the area the moment Han Solo gets stabbed

The cinematography in the sequels is pretty fantastic so I'd give the point to sequels. Regardless of the writing, it's pretty difficult to deny how visually gorgeous the sequels are at times.
