I carve a wooden spoon. I use linden wood.
For beginner wood carvers, I want to draw attention to the fact that it is necessary to use gloves from cuts. Without them, you can cause yourself a very big hand injury.

Here in the USA, Linden is commonly referred to as Basswood. Remarkable work nonetheless.

This man demonstrates that you can carve towards yourself but you need excellent technique like having good "stops". There was one or two cuts I would not try but we are all different.

looks like toss up of either Jelutong , Lime wood ,or Basswood.
