This was a well presented video and explanation of binoculars. I seen a lot of videos and have several binoculars. I learned one thing out of this. It was always recommended to not buy zoom binoculars due to columniation problems but no one really explained to me why. This video explained that. Thanks.

The best advice about zoom binoculars is: If offered as a gift, politely refuse. Certainly dont buy them. Easily knocked out of alignment, a pig to realign.

Is there any bad or dangerous points regarding bigger lenses? Im wondering if too big m8ght damage your eyes in bright day sun for example. Im looking for a big pair to use for plane spotting at our airfield its a huge intl airport so id like to be able to see a long ass way without cooking my corneas with the uv if thats even a thing. ?

Still making good videos :). I have a SkyQuest XT8 but I'm thinking about upgrading. How much more light can an XT 10 or a Skyline 12" bring in? I know it isn't the same topic as the video, but I really would like to
@oriontelescopes
@oriontelescopes 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Justin! The XT10 gathers about 56% more light than the 8 inch. The XT12 collects 42% more light than the XT10 - and a whopping 126% more than the XT8!

Please reply urgently🙏, what range it can cover during clear visibility? I need to purchase a binocular for seeing the site situated 10-15 Km. Please provide your suggestion. That will be highly appreciated.
@oriontelescopes
@oriontelescopes Жыл бұрын
For day time terrestrial viewing, the best range recommendation is around 3 km. Targets 10-15 km away can still be viewed but you won't resolve as much detail as you would with targets up to 3 km away. If you have additional questions feel free to contact us at 1-800-447-1001 or by email at sales@telescope.com.

If anyone could help me, I´m looking binoculars for distance, just lanscape, trees, mountains, static things from a long distance, the longer the better, don´t mind reduced field of view or if it weights a lot, just want to see details in long things thanks!
@oriontelescopes
@oriontelescopes Жыл бұрын
There are some additional things to consider like portability and whether you want to use a tripod or not, but a good starting point for a day time terrestrial viewing binocular would be something like our UltraView 10x50: bit.ly/3XewYPk If you would like to discuss other options, email us at sales@telescope.com or call us toll free at 800-447-1001.

I would like 100X, fully stabilized, with a 180 degree field of view. Also I don't want any visible aberration. And I would like no attenuation in light transmission. I would like them to be featherweight and waterproof to 500'. They should take a fall from at least 5' onto terrazzo without any damage or loss of performance. They should be completely fog free, even when frozen and taken out into 100 degree, 90% humidity, including the external lens surfaces. A plus would be if they could operate well down into the IR regime. How much would those cost and where can I get them? WHAT, I have to make compromises? And there are limitations? Well, doesn't that suck? 😛 Just FYI, you can't suck in light. Good video, though, all that kidding aside.

You lose a lot more than a percent of the light due to reflections (5:49). Binoculars lose 20% or more of the incoming light with typical full multi-coatings (FMC), around 15% with very good FMC, and 8-10% with exceptionally good (and expensive) FMC. There are 12 or many more air-to-class interfaces -- at objective lenses (4-6), prisms (2-8), eyepiece lens elements (8-12) -- and te loss at each is not additive but multiplicative, so the brightness decreases exponentially with the number of optical elements. Also the reduced brightness is not even the main issue but all that light bouncing around in the optical train: where does it go? It turns into "light pollution" superimposed on the true image, which is why poor coatings = poor contrast (and a hazy, ghosty image).
@Slartyfartblarst
@Slartyfartblarst 4 ай бұрын
He didn't mention exit pupil and dark-adapted eye pupil diameter versus age. Also don't buy zoom binoculars. Expensive, and hard to repair, or align. Binoculars are available as centre-focus or individual eyepiece focus types. The latter are easily waterproofed, best for astronomy. Centre-focus better for uses needing constant refocusing, i.e. birding etc.
