Probably the most important thing he said, figure out the why, make your gear work for what your doing not the other way around. Very very good point. I think people rush head first into buy kit without really stopping to think first, why do I need this? when/where would I use this? Instead they just start buying stuff and then you wind up with generic kits like plates, 3 mag pouch placard and a baofeng with no one to talk to with it and no idea where/why you'd wear the armor. Not saying people shouldnt own it but coming from someone who's wasted a lot of money on kit because I hadn't really thought about the where/when/why and then build it from there. Also putting thought into camo/color pattern selection is also important depending on again the when/where/why.

I currently use the crye spc. I had some severe back and hip injuries in the army and have dealt with pain issues ever since so I tried going as lightweight as I could with still maintaining a structural cumberbund but I keep wondering if the avs would be better for my back because of how it distributes the weight.

My back is also completely f***ed and I also tried a lot of setups and I‘m now stuck with the crye CPC and can also carry heavy loads without any problems. In my experience no matter how light you make setups with other platecarriers you‘ll have backpain no matter what. With the cpc I have zero problems

I loved my SPC. A lot more rigid than the JPC but a lot more stripped down than the AVS. A few friends of mine had an AVS and we'd use each others kits while shooting and I found the SPC very comparable to the load-capacity and rigidity of the AVS, so I'd say stick with the SPC. If you need a higher carrying ability you should go to the CPC from the SPC, in my opinion.

I'm looking into carriers. How does something like the avs or another carrier with buckles on the shoulders work compared to one that doesn't (like a jpc) when it comes to stock placement? Does it hinder placement, sit underneath, or snag slings or anything like that?
@DJ-fd4qk
@DJ-fd4qk 10 ай бұрын
Every PC with larger shoulder pads will have some effect on stock placement because of the extra material. However, when choosing a PC that should not be a significant factor and if it is, it's a training issue on your part. The AVS was designed for optimal weight distribution while using a medium-profile system that doesn't encompass you like the CAGE does. The JPC was designed to be low profile enough to be worn under a harness for Airborne and MFF operations. 2 totally different philosophies of use.
@matthewriegner5180
@matthewriegner5180 10 ай бұрын
@@DJ-fd4qk makes sense thanks for that info. I only ask because of never wearing one, it's something people suggest you have to train around, but wasn't sure if one style was more of an impact than another with regards to that. Ideally, I'd like to not be buying multiple pc just to find out something as minimal as a buckle causes me issues and then asking around people are like duh thats commonly known.
@DJ-fd4qk
@DJ-fd4qk 10 ай бұрын
@@matthewriegner5180 honestly, unless you're expecting to carry a full combat loadout which is 7 mags (210 rounds) plus comms, water, IFAK, and sustainment items, the AVS isn't needed. It's expensive for what the average person will use it for because 90% of non-military people won't actually reap the benefits of the harness system, so you're better off using a lighter, simpler carrier like the Defense Mechanisms MEPC, Mayflower/Velocity APC and Scarab, Crye JPC 2.0, HRT RAC, etc.

@@matthewriegner5180 for sure brother. Biggest advice is to buy gear that is centered around your specific needs. This is my first video of yours I have ever watched, just got some soft critique. You may want to change the title because the current title leads an audience to believe that this is specifically about the AVS Plate Carrier. LE setups are different than Military setups big dog. Us military folks are very used to the full on 90lb combat loadout plate carrier setup, but LE doesn’t require that. So they can set their stuff up with a bit more exquisiteness. So if it works for him then so be it. For us, literally the radio, admin, mag, frag, & smoke pouches took over all of the molle space on our shit lmao.

I’d like to put together my own kit but I’m a little overwhelmed with all the gear and options I see in videos. I’ve heard of the Crye brand and from what I see it’s great quality but still don’t know where to start. The kit shown here for example seems to be made up of many different parts and brands etc. I thought I’d be watching a video explaining the plate carrier itself but apparently it has many aftermarket parts and accessories added to it which confuses me even more. I wish I could just buy a plate carrier with all the pouches and crap already on it and cut out most of the confusion. I do train handgun and carbine a few times per week on my personal range but I’d like to be trading in full kit to step it up. Id appreciate if you can point me I. The right direction of any videos about building kit for someone starting from scratch. Thanks.

Depends on how much you want to spend. If you want a good simple starter plate carrier, I’d go with the T-Rex arms AC1 or Ferro Concepts Slickster with a decent placard that can hold primary and secondary mags. Get a good gun belt and holster, some mag pouches for your gun belt (I like the T-Rex arms KYWI mag pouches), a dump pouch and an IFAK and you’d be good to go. Start off simple, and as you learn more and figure out what best meets your needs, upgrade your kit from there.
@mortarmantv
@mortarmantv 10 ай бұрын
@@laeggroll777 I’d be willing to pay whatever. Money isn’t an issue. The issue I’m having is learning what all these different pieces are called, the lingo etc. I can’t find a video where each and every single piece of kit is described and explained in great detail. They all assume you already know so much. For example in your reply. You can find anything on the internet if you know what to search for specifically. That is where the problem lies. I’m familiar with weapons all day. I’m a veteran but we didn’t have any of the gear you see in use today. I been out of the military over 20 years. I just need more specifics on what to buy and what my options are. It’s been so frustrating to say the least.
@aaronkinder2807
@aaronkinder2807 10 ай бұрын
When you go to the crye website they have user manuals for the AVS. You can download that in a PDF and then review it. It goes through the different options as well as how to actually set them up. I know what you mean when you say it's overwhelming. It is... The other fun part is when you buy from Crye they send it individually packaged. So you buy components and then have to build your carrier before being able to wear it. It took me well over an hour to get the shock cord etc. just right for my body. I'm sure I could do it faster now but the first time took a bit and was frustrating. The AVS is a beast. Had I known my changing preferences I would've gone AVS over the SPC simply for the AVS harness system.
