Hey everyone! I hate doing this but I'm fighting for my life in the copyright disputes for this video, which means I'm currently not able to monetize it. I was counting on it to help me deal with a few additional expenses of late, so I'd appreciate some support if you have the means to! If not, just watching the work I put so much effort into means the world. But if you can, my Venmo is @JoseMLuna, my PayPal link is in the description, and my super comments are I think enabled. I appreciate it so much! Thank you for watching!

This was wonderful! I always felt that the turn in Portrait of a Lady on Fire, was as Maiane left and Heloise asks her to turn. Taking her earlier insistence of Eurydice's agency into her own life. And to do this whilst in her wedding dress, the symbol of her "death", echoing the apparition Mariane earlier saw in the hallway and turned from. The fleeting misses, the ways Heloise later seeks out Mariane in the illustrated ovid and vivialdi, are just Eurudice's way of reminding herself she loved and was loved. Much the same way that the frame narrative of Mariane's art class, the titular portrait and her painting of Orpheus's farewell is hers. It is their life after death

Honestly teared up towards the end there. What a beautiful and moving video essay. I never thought that Titanic and Portrait of a lady on fire are stories inspired by orpheus’ tragedy! I’ve learned so much from this pls keep making these amazing works of art

I had never seen a video of yours but I saw Hadestown and Portrait on the thumbnail and I had to click and just... wow. This is one of the most mesmerizing video essays I've seen. The way you weaved every piece of media together to tell the many facets of this myth was amazing. Also don't feel bad about the catholic references they were very on point lol Anyway I hope this video gets more views because this is seriously the cream of the crop

This was such a beautiful exploration, not just of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, but of love in general. We love despite knowing we could very easily lose our love for any number of different reasons. We listen to sad songs over and over again to feel that sadness, but know that the sadness eventually ends; perhaps not when the song ends, but just at some point in the future.

God this is so so beautiful. Truly a work of art made specifically for ME and my life-long obsession with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and its devastating balance of hope and devastation. Amazing video, I'll be thinking about it forever I think.

You are an artist and an inspiration! You have two faces for us to try and see, stepping around you curiously, just on the verge of eye contact, desperately trying to figure out how on earth you came up with yourself. And yet... your neck is so much slimmer than the humans the titans made. - N

This was such a cool essay to listen to this morning. I'm really glad that this came about my recommended videos. It's so fascinating as a Catholic to Agnostic how many of these stories, these concepts, these tales of humanity are wrapped in one another, the threads of regions pulling them away in pieces and reforging them in a different image. This is why I've always enjoyed mytholgies and the faiths that bloom from them. But I have to say, I love the ending the most, because you bear your heart in such a beautiful way. I'm always so happy to see others happy, and you're right. While it could be defined as madness to be vulnerable in an uncaring world, it also provides a light like nothing else these days. Cheers, and thanks again for such a thoughtful essay.
