A Theologian is one who knows God intimately, the title was designed only to recognize someone who spoke from personal experience of the vision of God. We've only had 3 of them in the history of the Apostolic Church, the 3 being St. John the Apostle, St. Gregory of Nazianzus, and St. Symeon the New Theologian.

@thekingofthings2002 if you say “I don’t cling to Orthodoxy, I cling to the gospel” you are speaking the words of devil. Orthodoxy is the truth. You literally cannot understand the words of the gospel without the Orthodox church. Example from “the words of the Gospel”- So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And then St Philip proceeds to explain it for him. As you come to learn, the Apostles are bishops ordained by Christ. Thus, this is itself an image of how we NEED the church (built on right-believing/confessing bishops) to even comprehend scriputr Of course you would never understand these things without the Orthodox Church. When you come into the church, an entire world of meaning opens up. And you can ACTUALLY comprehend the words and truth of the gospel.

It's intriguing to consider how the humble sinner depicted in the meme, studying his theology by candlelight, happens to have a wall-mounted electric lamp😂💡 in what looks to be an otherwise quite pre-modern aesthetic. Seriously though, thank you for the upload! "God be gracious unto us, cause His face to shine upon us and have mercy on us." (Ps. 66:1)

I suspect it is AI generated, but it's appropriate. Orthodoxy is all about holding onto the traditional, but not to the extent of rejecting all modern conveniences. I can totally see an orthodox priest in his traditional robes reading by a simple electric lamp. The candles are a part of the ceremony of worship, I don't think the Orthodox are any different in this regard. At the very least it is a good representational image of the spirit of orthodoxy. The simple room, the minimal modern convenience bring used for his worship, the most fancy parts of the room are the parts related to the actual worship of God. As it should be.

Don't hesitate. Just come and see. Orthodoxy must be experienced to be understood. Having said that, the books and homilies of St. John Chrysostom, St. Basil the Great, St. Gregory of Nazianzus, and St. Gregory of Nyssa are all excellent materials. The seven letters of St. Ignatius of Antioch and the epistle of St. Polycarp are also good.

I've also started learning more about orthodoxy in the last year or so. Going to a church really helped introduce me to a lot, as well as talking to priests there. I'd also recommend the Ancient Faith channel hear on youtube. I'm reading through The Orthodox Church by Timothy Ware which you will probably be recommended by most churches. So far it's a great source on early church development
