It is always interesting to be the focus of a significant news paper like the New York Times. Billy has taken an interesting angle. It is a shame that he does not cover the more serious issue that there is clearly a significant environmental influence on the position of the teeth and bones of the face. I have been calling for a debate, and think that it is imprerative to have a debate on the cause of crooked teeth. How can my speciality be treating such a large percentage of the population with little or no understanding of the cause.
We have put forward a sensible concept, see Tropic Premise and Craniofacial Dystrophy, are trying hard to affect the suspected causes of the problem in an effort to cure the underlying deformity. It takes time and we would love anyone to scientifically analyse our cases, warts and all.
I do not claim to have all the answers, but I do claim to be asking the right questions. There is a significant group of professionals who are concerned that methods of orthodontics can lead to a downswing in facial form impacting the airway. We need a understand why we people have crooked teeth, need teeth removed or even surgery. This is not too much to ask, it is realistically little more than the continuation of the scientific process.
It is not easy critique the very foundations of a massive industry, and there is a lot more to the story that Billy puts across. It is a story that needs hearing.
We manage to facebook pages for anyone professional or not to ask questions openly.

This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

In the first before/after picture shown the change is a little difficult to see, although there is change there, and probably a lot to be seen by the trained eye. In the second picture, it's so much clearer to all that there is an excellent change in the face, chin and jaw area and the neck (a much better, sharper contrast). Perhaps the journalist only saw the first picture. If he saw the second it would be silly to report as he did.

I wouldn't necessarily say that, they may have a tight schedule, and don't quite have the moment to throughly think about how faces look at different angles (although these pictures were at he same angle...) or to give a good solid look at the two to notice the differences, in other words itnwould have to be extreme rather than simply significant for a rushed journalist to notice. Then again it is kind of part of their job to actually know the details, and after a moment or two of observing the two pictures and with a familiarity with how faces move ect, it shouldn't take more than a few moments to at least get the idea that the two faces aren't the same (and that one looks healthier than the other), even if you can't pin down a reason... So I half disagree and half agree with you.

Mewing fucking works. It’s so frustrating when people try to discredit it when they’ve never done it. Orthodontists will literally attach expanders on people’s teeth to do the job that your tongue is supposed to! If expanders work why shouldn’t your tongue??? Also mike mew if you’re reading this thank you so much 🙏. I went from having constant sinus infections and noticeable lisp (due to not having enough space in my palate for my tongue) to having super clear nasal passages, no lisp, and saving myself from having to get my wisdom teeth removed. All in under a year (18-19 y/o). You’re a blessing.

It's clear that the main stream media doesn't understand what mewing is about. The most important benefits of mewing are not the aesthetics, but actually the improvements you don't see. Breathing through the nose, correct posture. These two things have HUGE impacts on one's life. Getting better cheekbones and becoming more attractive are just some sidegrades, not the main role. Keep up the work Dr. Mew! You must know that the work you do is very important to a lot of people

Mewing definetly works. I started practicing it when I was 17,now I am 20,and my facial features changed tremendously, from an average face, I transformed into a beauty with prominent cheekbones, chiseled jaw, and a better developed midface. If your thinking of starting mewing, you should definitely do that, don't let sold-out media to discourage you from getting a well developed face naturally, with a capacity nature provided for us.

It wasn't long at all to sort out a tmj issue for me, which was pleasantly surprising! 😁 A few weeks of at least doing lips and teeth together (I'm not sure I was doing the tongue posture properly all this time, but definitely made effort to keep it at roof of mouth), and I undid 20 years of jaw clicking when chewing - an issue which had gotten much worse to the point of locking in recent years. I thought I was going to need to see a dentist and get an operation or something to fix the problem, it was that bad before.

i just turned 38 this month. i'd heard of mewing for at least three years, but i saw it repeated over and over that the benefits would be minimal if there were any at all after 25, so i never seriously pursued it. i just started this week with some targeted thumb pulling sessions (i cannot recommend this for everyone - as there seems to be some risk of injury from people using improper technique or too much force).... my face looks slightly rounder (where it was a little too long before). the biggest difference is in the shadows of the undereye bags which always made me look tired and unhappy... they've pretty much disappeared, as my cheeks are no longer as sunken in (which i have carried and suffered with for over a decade - gone in mere moments). it's like i had under eye filler done - except this fixed the underlying problem, not just try to mask it. people tell me i look 10 years younger than my age, but my eye bags always made me self-conscious.... now it's not even an issue. my jawline is still a problem, but as my maxilla progresses, i can see it looking more attractive in a few months (i think it would take about a quarter of an inch - give or take - of forward growth for my mandible to extend forward to the optimal position)

Jar Head sealing my lips more with my cheekbones if that makes sense. i used to be a mouth breather due to allergies, so it’s hard to remind myself to keep my lips sealed. if you keep your chest up while chewing, the results are quicker & you can feel your skeleton going in place from a recessive chin. my bad habit at the moment is breathing through my nose with my mouth open. i used to just breathe through my mouth which is bad, so i’m slowly but surely getting there. it’s kinda hard to keep my lips sealed cause i have an overbite due to mouth breathing my whole life. my teeth have progressed & my overbite is damn near gone. chin to chest is the key, always keep your chest up! i was a sloucher my whole life & literally had a hunchback. now my back is straight, i’m just working on keeping my chin tucked in so i don’t have the recessive chin look which is my insecurity for my side profile. a reminder i like to keep in my head is “bite down” but of course with your teeth barely touching. remember when mewing your facial structure should be growing vertical, not horizontal!

bro that's significant change. it's not the posture in the picture itself, BUT correct posture for a long duration had a great deal of the facial structure adjustment (for the better). it's noticeable in every part, the jaw, cheekbone, and forehead and nose.

A lot of the people commenting on the growth that is there are referring to anterior growth. The reporter sounds like he was just looking for width. Tbh I think that id be happy to even have that level of anterior growth.

How long does it usually take to see results from mewing?
@Galdring
@Galdring Жыл бұрын
The problem is that he's leaning his head backward. One can see that from the angle of his nose and ear. The picture to the left is also taken from a lower angle than the one to the right. One can see that from the relative height of the eye and ear (either that, or the backward tilt is significantly greater than the nose and ear angle suggest), and the amount of the upper ear fold that shows. The lighting and resolution of the camera are also different. His double chin has become smaller, but that would also be the effect of tilting your head backward and pushing your tongue to your palate. That's why all celebrities do that for red-carpet photo shoots. It may have worked, but that's really hard to tell.

My hips look more curved and feminine (same fat same muscles I mean Im no Kylie Jenner now) but changes in posture and function do reflect in structure and viceversa right? How could it not change the face or skull????

I am a fan of the results I have seen from all the cases the Mew's have shared. I have implemented their suggestions at home for our family and have noticed improvements even in my 38 year old face after a couple years of consistent effort and attention. That said, I am a stay at home mom so I expect I have more hours than most to practice the techniques and I am a highly motivated person so I practice faithfully. I really wish the broader orthodontic community would accept or at least compare their results to those of the Mew's for debate not just for them but for the betterment of all of us. As of now there are a very low number of orthotropic practitioners in most places and unfortunately, my experience has been that the supply/demand issue along with the reality that this is still considered a "fringe" treatment method has had at least some affect on the quality of service offered and the accountability of providers. I prepaid for what was to be a 24 month treatment for class II malocclusion for my son but now, eight months in (two of those due to office closures from COVID-19) we are still in the upper palate expansion (phase 1) part of treatment that was only supposed to last 3-4 months. Practitioner is now proposing additional fees that were not part of our original signed contract. My parents did not have this experience with a traditional orthodontist for me when I was a child and that is probably because there were so many orthodontists to choose from that no one would have stood for price gouging. Definitely believe in the Mew's process as an effective, if difficult, approach but feel there is lots of room for improvement and accountability in this field overall. I would suggest that for those beginning treatment, get a detailed fee schedule in writing up front that states not just the total cost of treatment but also a breakdown of what each phase of treatment costs including consultation, any appointment costs etc so that if at any time you feel you have to change practitioners (no one thinks they will have to do this when they are excited about beginning treatment) you will have some documentation to support a claim for a partial refund for those services or goods not yet rendered. At this point I have lost trust in my practitioner so we are moving on to a different provider. Since I prepaid for the entire treatment I am at the practitioner's mercy unless I take him to small claims court which I feel is distasteful. He is refunding me less than half the cost of my son's total treatment while having completed less than a quarter of agreed upon treatment. Hopefully sharing our story prevents someone else from an experience like ours.

I got a question: should there be air in your mouth while mewing? I'm asking this question because I find difficult to swallow while my tongue is resting on the spot on the palat without touching my teeth. This is because of the air that I have to move in my mouth in order to swallow just my saliva and not the air. On the contrary, I noticed that if i put my tongue against my teeth in order to not have any air in my mouth I can swallow "properly" (with properly i mean being able to swallow without moving any facial muscle). I know that you shouldn't put your tongue against you teeth but if I don't do that swallowing becames really uncomfortable... I don't know what to do helppppp

When you should swallow, you should push your entire tongue against the roof of your mouth and use it scoop the food (or saliva) down your throat. And yes, when you mew, there should be no air in your mouth: it should be a vacuum.

They're not so subtly trying to discredit Dr's John and Mike Mews discoveries and knowledge by using poor journalism and weak effort to understand the Mew practices. NY times made it like they're gonna write this great article on this huge discovery to get people's hopes up, then they just tanked the actual interpretation of data and case studies. This makes a lot of people expect an innovative, revolutionary treatment then walk away from the article saying "what a bunch of baloney"
