The Ortofon 2M line of cartridges, the red, blue, bronze and black. Are amongst the easiest to install. The short video will walk you through the steps.

Perfect. I looked up how to install the Red and figured I could translate whatever I found to the AT-LP120…but you did all the work for me :)

Thanks so much for this. I have just installed a 2M Silver and I have to say it’s magic (compared to my faithful but tired Shure M91ED) Great bottom end and non sibilant highs. Elliptical styli need care and attention in the alignment department. The slightest tweet really opened up the left channel. Thanks for ya work... ✌️

I just purchased the 2m red cartridge and ordered the headshell separately. Will the headshell come with an overhang tool? Or do I just need to use my Hudson hi-fi overhang gauge?
@Audiorpheus_Vinyl5 жыл бұрын
Won’t come with a tool. Overhang gauges are tied to specific turntables, not cartridges. Using your Protractor is the way to go

My question is a little bit different, I am just returning to vinyl and brought a Project EVO with a Ortofon red, I think it ride low, only about 1mm between the housing and the vinyl, when the stylus is in the groove! Is it the normal ride high for this cartridge?

Thanks for the Video. What is that alignment tool you used?
@Audiorpheus_Vinyl6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dub. That is an Overhang Gauge, and they only work for a few tables: mostly Japanese makes with s-shaped tonearms.
@PaulsPlace19776 жыл бұрын
northlander I picked a Technics one up from EBay brand new for about £5 (British), you will need to check the geometry of your particular tone arm. As the guy in the video said, they are only used with certain s shaped tone arms, most popular being Technics SL1200 and some other tables that use exactly the same tone arm measurements, like Audio Technica LP120, which is what I have, it makes the job so simple and you know with confidence, that your cartridge is set up correctly for that turntable, Hope this helps

I recently purchased a new Ortofon Blue stylus for my turntable. I see connectors, but I do not know how to remove the old stylus from the headshell in order to install my upgrade (this is my first time buying a new stylus) aren't the wires supposed to come out to connect to the stylus?
@RadioFreeSpike10 ай бұрын
I ended up buying a new headshell for my new Ortofon Blue. I'm having the opposite problem; getting the plugs to -stay- in the little holes. Comparing to my old headshell and cartridge, I wonder if I will have to crimp the female connectors so they don't let the male part slip out. (or just be able to jam them in place...) This may be what happened on your previous cartridge connection

I’m so confused…. I tightened the screws as tight as possible, cartridge still loose and sliding up and down headshell. I assume that’s not normal!? Is there a 3rd screw? Please help.

Is this another method of aligning the cartridge or is this not the same as using the alignment protractor?
@Audiorpheus_Vinyl6 жыл бұрын
Some brands of turntables suggest to use a specific alignment Protractor, some suggest to use a specific overhang. I am lucky in that my turntable’s recommended overhang sets the cartridge in line with a Stevenson Protractor, so I can use whichever I so choose.
@PaulsPlace19776 жыл бұрын
laura torres its usually down to the turntable tone arm geometry. Most that have an s shaped tone arm are based on Technics sL1200, including Audio Technica LP120 and many other now, These all use a 52mm overhang and using the correct gauge will set everything to the recommended spec, I believe Pioneer turntables use a 49mm gauge? It’s much easier than using a protractor. This method was actually recommended by Technics and Audio Technica And once you have done it a few times you can have a cartridge installed and ready to go in a no time, One thing that was pressed upon by Technics was the fact that you can’t use both the overhang gauge and a protractor, it’s one or the other, which ever you prefer!, and the overhang technique only works with certain tone arms, s shaped I believe, I honestly wish I had discovered the overhang tool beforehand,

there's a lot more involved than just attaching 4 wires and 2 screws.. VTA and Weight alignments are the most important and difficult.

No, it came with my turntable. I can use it to align all of my cartridges. Alignment gauges were popular with Japanese turntables in the 1970s. You will likely need to use an alignment Protractor instead

Hi from Germany (sorry for my english) Bye the way your Videos are helpfully and great. I own a Fluance Rt 81 with an s shape tonearmy. In stock the AT 95 was installed in Center of the Headshell. I bought a different new Cartridges now, and i must setup again. Now all my Cartridges are mounted near at the endpoint of the Headshell straight to the Tonearm. Why are those differences? Fluance said they allready prealined there Cartridge.

If there is a 3rd screw and prefabricated opening for it in the middle, would you not simply use that to align the cart on the headshell? That is how my Rega works and it is foolproof. A three point mount is designed to do that is it not?

The middle hole would be for old BSR or Garrard TT with single screw mount headshell
