I rode on the cheapest seat of the overnight sleeper train, Sunrise Express, from Osaka to Tokyo. I highly recommend this train as a budget travel between the two cities.
* Fare(Osaka - Tokyo): 12,400JPY (107.8USD)
* Quality: Comfortable for the cheapest seat
* Amenities: Blanket, mini cup
* Facilites: Shower room, washbasins, drink vending machines, and lounge space
* How to get the ticket: From ticket vending machines or ticket offices at JR stations

I'm surprised at the fairly low prices. In the states at least often a soda is $1.99 to $2.99 for one from a vending machine which is like a big deal, if you can find one and if it even works and doesn't just keep your money.
