This is undoubtedly the finest part of this informative film, for it's about me! In all seriousness, I am glad that I could help my dearest Oscar write that marvelous novel of his with my most glorious nature.

Bosie might have been Oscar's muse but clearly Dorian Gray is the Portrait of Oscar Wilde's own soul.

the cool thing about his wife is that in the end even after the scandal she still supported him for who he was.

What a great idea to have Hitch interviewed for this subject!

5:33 I think Oscar would have gone straight if he heard how corny this letter would be resuscitated for posterity.

Why do you people not concentrate on the work
@DavidHughesEire8 жыл бұрын
It maddens me too. His sexuality is more discussed than his genius work. I read something very true somewhere before that went something like: "If Wilde had destroyed half a dozen young women's lives by having affairs with them behind their husband's backs and left them pregnant with his illegitimate sons, he would have been left alone. It's just a shame he conducted his secret affairs with members of his own sex, which is why he was persecuted. The male is sacrosanct, but the woman seems fair game"... A VERY interesting point I thought. Still, to this very day, his sexuality remains the most discussed aspect of Wilde's life, which is a crying shame. I always encourage people to sideline it and concentrate on his works instead, but my advice, more often than not, falls upon deaf ears. The height of respect to you Duncan, at least there are some enlightened people among us. From David, a writer and musician from, like Oscar, Éire, the Emerald Isle...

There is apparently no recording of Wilde's voice but it was described by people as like a cello.

Cello played by a novice or a cello played by a maestro? The difference is only the space between thunder breaking glass and a song bird melodiously prophesying the dawn.

Agreed. Wilde was a representative of Genius. Do we have to make him sound like a pedantic fop?
