I adore Oscar. I have known of Wilde for a long time and been familiar with some of his work, but it was Mr. Fry that introduced me to Oscar Wilde. I cannot thank Stephen enough for introducing me to such a genius. I also love and admire Stephen Fry. Meeting him was one of the highlights of my life.

3:35 WHAT? You should have told me! I would give you all my money, though I was only one year old when the film was made. I just love Oscar so much, I mean, I actually adore him, I practically worship him and his work and his thoughts and... everything about him. OMG. Thank you very much to all those who made the film possible and Stephen, he was PERFECT on the part of Oscar Wilde. Amazing interview but the movie that and the person who inspired it are even more amazing.

i think the reason i like this movie so much is because no matter how much Bosie bothers me, i can relate to him so well...

Mr. Fry IS Oscar Wilde. He's his doppelganger or identical twin separated at birth and separated by a century. Uncanny, no?

Bosies father was without a doubt the ideal of the hypocritical Victorian era bully and that's about as nice a way as anyone put it without going into the realm of curse words which describe him so much better at least in my opinion

The whole thing was and is a treat. I think that the story is just about wrapt up in this version, for me anyway, bit like BBC Bridshead. What is there to improve on? Stephen Fry IS Oscar.

Pederasty was accepted by some social classes in ancient Greece, but pederasty isn't homosexual per se.

Well, then you're wrong. Homosexual relations were never socially accepted by the ancient Greeks. Pederasty, on the other hand, was accepted in the ancient world. But pederasty does not involve homosexual practices.

? Love of men and boys?

paultry: What was the norm was sex between a grown man and a teenage boy. The older man would have a wife and children, probably, and the adolescent boy would too, later in his life. These relationships existed in two different realms. The boy was supposed to not give himself away too easily and to get something in return, be it money, status, education. Also, there were unices, and men sometimes had sex with them. But the modern concept of two adult, male-identified and non-altered men having relationships with each other, that was pretty new. I mean, I'm sure that plenty of people had done it, but it had not been talked about much. Wilde was one of the first to become public about it, and to have it become associated with his world view, his clothing, personality and etc. And that is way in some ways he is considered to be the first modern homosexual. Before that, sex with the same sex was something that some people did. But it was not an identity, it was not considered to be something that some people are. Sodemite was not an identity, it just described somebody who did a particular thing, like a swimmer, etc.
