One of the most well deserved best actress winners ever. I can't watch Trip To Bountiful without sobbing my eyes out she was so real in that and all of her roles. Will never see another Geraldine Page. I'm glad she finally received the recognition she deserved even if it was almost at the end of her life. Better late then never.

Wow (!) what a great actress and it was certainly high-time she was awarded with a well deserved Oscar! This was Miss Page's eighth Oscar nomination (going back more than thirty years) and she wasn't expecting to win this particular time either - though she was always a gracious runner-up and never complained. The delay in getting up to the podium was due to the fact that Geraldine had to put her shoes back on (her feet were bothering her) - so comfortable with the idea that she wouldn't be called to the stage.

Physically very different, wonderfully complex as far as personality and acting technique go, they represent a bridge from the older generation (Laurette Taylor, Katharine Cornell, Helen Hayes and other now legendary stars) and the newer one (Glenn Close, Meryl Streep and others). And one more thing - what actor today has to humility and the transcendent grace to thank his/her writer for creating the role? Page was truly a creature of the theater, where the sensibility is that one acknowledges that they illuminated the words of the writer. If you love G.P., check her out in Woody Allen's "Interiors" - a film on which people are critically divided, but not about Page's masterful creation of the needy, draining, passive aggressive character, Eve.

Murray AbraHAM was referring to Meryl herself when he said "the greatest actress in the English language" at the time. I thought Whoopi was mesmerizing in A Color Purple and would've been a deserving winner, but have no problem with Geraldine winning. She was so brilliantly subtle with the nuance and layers she brought to A Trip to Bountiful. So glad she got her Oscar before her tragic death about a year later

She so deserved this Oscar.Anytime anyone asks me to recommend a movie I tell them to see this movie. There will never be another actress like her so unusual and quirky. If you'd like to see another great film with Geraldine Page, Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory" about Truman's childhood living with his aunt. Who by the way was the darling old lady on the Jay Leno Tonite show as the fruitcake lady who would tell people like it is when answering there questions.

She deserved this Academy Award as she had given us excellent performances in every film and theatre that she graced with her presence. She also should have won for Woody Allen’s Ingmar Bergman inspired “Interiors,” but sadly did not prevail that evening. That mistake was rectified here, and bless you Geraldine Page for the many hours of viewing pleasure that you gave us. RIP.

So sweetl...seems without ego...in that way she would inhabit the roles she played. She mentions others in the company...the sign of a stage actress and someone aware of the collaborative effort to make a film. Carrie Watts was unforgettable.

Geraldine Page was one of the most sublime actresses to ever come down the pike. A master actor! Actually, she received a total of EIGHT Oscar nominations for: HONDO (Supporting); SUMMER AND SMOKE (Lead); SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH (Lead); YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW (Supporting); PETE N TILLIE (Supporting); INTERIORS (Lead); THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE (Supporting); THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL (Lead and Oscar Win) Blessings of love and light to her spirit and her acting legacy!

This was truly one of the most loaded Best Actress races in the history of the Academy Awards. All five performances were worthy of a win. I'm sure, though, that the deciding factor was Ms. Page's body of excellent work and that's why she was ultimately awarded the Oscar that year.

Damn - this was just one of those years where the nominees were all damn great and it was a difficult call...and also one of those years when all the nominees - in her own way - was a classy, classy lady - each with an intelligence and sensuality difficult to find today. Sure, there are young actors today who have the chops, but each and everyone of them have the class?

Fun fact: Jessica Lange portayed Joan Crawford in Feud and offered to accept the 1963 Oscar for Miss Page if she won the award but Miss Bancroft was who won the 1963 Oscars and Joan accepted the award on her behalf due to her Broadway schedule being an issue for her albiet the 1963 Oscars was pure SHADE between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.
