I've suffered hypocalcemia severe seizures in my youth and most of the doctors were clueless what's happening. I've had like 100 of them, and every single one of them felt like dying. I've later learned how to prevent and keep it under control, but they took a toll on my everyday life and relations. Thank you for explaining this topic in detail! For those of you who stumble upon this comment and have similar troubles, one emergency treatment you can self-administer during seizure is slow breathing - especially longer exhalation and breathing in your hands. This will prevent a panic attack occurring simultaneously with the seizure and raise the calcium levels in the blood by raising the CO2 levels and bringing pH levels in balance. I don't remember the exact biology, but it works.

Thanks for info, is there any thing more we can know about this. My cousin have this kind of problem but we dont know its causes, how and when it will start. It first started during her periods pains and after that this condition keeps coming dont know when and how. Her observation is when she cry due to pain or any other reason it happens mostly. Your suggestions will be very helpful.

@@fasiuddinahmed4885 Make sure it is hypocalcaemia first and if there is maybe some underlying condition present like thyroid or parathyroid problems. I don't feel comfortable giving advice since I'm not a doctor. Still, if you want my experience, I would recommend learning some relaxing techniques, especially those involving breathing exercises. Then keeping an eye on hormonal balance and electrolyte balance. And don't worry

Im gonna give Calcium supplements a go for a few months. Suffering from seizures last 3 months which could be caused by some neurons which got more excitable because of calcium deficiency. Last 2 years I had chestbone and shin pain. Got tested for Vit D which was very good. My eyelid is also twitching a lot. I also used high concentration of magnesium supplement last 6 months which could have decreased calcium in my body. Really hoping calcium supplementing is gonna help me.

so a little confused about false hypocalaemia. If there is less albumin, the calcium which was meant to be bound with albumin would be free ionised calcium? or does negative feedback occur where less PTH is produces so some of that calcium gets excreted so you have total less calcium but the same free amount of calcium? thanks for clarifying!

Awesome video..!! can someone please explain why hypocalcemia leads to prolonged QT interval..i thought that due to decreased calcium, less will enter the cell during plateau.. thereby decreasing QT interval..
@ArunKumar-sk3sd
@ArunKumar-sk3sd 7 жыл бұрын
Akshit Tuli You are right dude... but the mechanism here is little different.. that is the calcium ion stabilizes the sodium channel as you know... the channel is easily excitable due to less calcium and also it is less likely to close earlier thus it takes some time to close.... that indicates the prolonged QT interval..... hope u can understand😎!!!
@akshittuli1211
@akshittuli1211 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying Arun.. My understanding is that ..QT interval corresponds to phase 2&3 of cardiac action potential (plateau and repolarization)..and sodium is not involved in any of these..alteration of sodium channels (as u say "is less likely to close") should affect shape of QRS complex..not QT duration... correct me if I'm wrong...
@ArunKumar-sk3sd
@ArunKumar-sk3sd 7 жыл бұрын
Akshit Tuli Only the conduction pathway of the heart is not concerned about sodium channels.....not the myocardium. the myocardium is having sodium channels also. And you are saying that phase 2&3 is about plateau and repolarization... but it's not. The Qwave corresponds the septal depolarization Rwave corresponds major ventricular depolarization. And S corresponds the basal ventricular depolarization... finally aftr the depolarization repolarization occurs in the whole ventricle as a single vector that is the Twave..... so in the QT interval we are having all this 3 waves QRS and T as well... if the sodium channel is not closing properly due to calcium lag in the ventricles the normal time to get repolarized(Twave) is delayed in the ventricles... it results in prolonged QT interval.
