Hey! I know this video is a few years old but I wanted to give a tip. I bought a frame sheet and inserted the frame inside the shoulder strap pocket. This is a game changer and takes out the hassle of trying to organize my gear in a way so that it doesn’t poke my back. Not sure if you thought of this already but I thought I would share :)

Great review video. I'm looking forward to the side by side comparisons. I've spent a little time with the Transporter 65 (even using it as a carry on by not over packing). One thing I've noticed is that I didn't miss the top grab carry handles at all. Because the internal compression straps cross the interior of the bag I was always able to grab one of the side handles and carry it sideways. And as it's mostly cylindrical it's pretty easy to carry it sideways. Sometimes, like when waiting in line to board a flight, I would carry using the grab handle on the top keeping the bag close to me. The other thing that I really appreciate in this bag is the ability to tuck any long or loose handles into the lid pocket. This makes for a durable and checkable bag should I need to check it rather than carry on. If checked it doesn't have any large external straps to catch or get beat up.

Thanks! You're right about the handles, the side ones work well enough for carrying the bag, that you don't really need top grab handles with this bag. I noticed it more when I was comparing it to the Patagonia bag (comparison video will come out Friday) which has a top grab handle. I much prefer the carry methods on the Osprey Transporter over the Patagonia Black Hole. How does the 65L version work as a carry on? Seems like it might be a little too big (23.6" x 14.2" x 12.6") but you mentioned you under-pack the bag so maybe it fits that way.

@@OneBagTravels Definitely cannot stuff it too full and expect it to fit into an overhead bin. Because it's a bag rather than a hard-sided case it's pretty easy to squish into the right shape to make it fit where it needs to as long as I've under packed a bit. I have been on smaller planes where other passengers were unable to fit even slightly oversized hard-sided bags into the overhead compartment but my bag squished into just the right shape to fit in. My idea was that if anyone does give me a hard time about the size of the bag, or if I find an overhead bin that it won't fit into then I can just tuck the straps out of the way and feel not too bad about checking it. Alternatively, if I come home with more stuff than I left with I have the extra room to use and can always check the full bag. One other thing I noticed as I was moving around with mine is that the padded portion of the shoulder strap just uses velcro to wrap around that strap. I assume that if someone really wanted to have a traditional top grab handle this could be wrapped around the backpack straps and then they would be held together to grab. I haven't really felt the loss of one more carry handle, but there may be some circumstances in which this would be the best way to haul the pack.

@@spydre8 That's a great reason for underpacking your bag, I ALWAYS come home with more stuff than I left with! Good idea with the shoulder strap pad, I didn't think about taking it off.

Another great review. I always wondered how comfortable it would be to use the backpack straps as a duffle carry and your review answers this.

If I’m out walking around with a loaded 40 liter duffel bag on my back being made as a tourist isn’t a top concern. Getting to where I’m headed as fast as possible to get that damn thing off is my only concern. Comfort while carrying is number two but having a padded back that breathes comes with another weight disadvantage. Not having a carrying handle and limiting carry to back or crossbody isn’t a problem as it frees both hands which is necessary for traveling with children or making transactions for transportation. This Osprey model looks like a solid choice for travel if you’re carrying it for less than 30-40 minutes just to get your stuff to the airport, your vehicle or into your hotel.

Decided to pick up the Osprey over the REI Big Haul, Patagonia Black Hole, Eagle Creek Migrate Duffel, and Mystery Ranch Mission Duffel based on this review. Thanks! I'm going to cross-compare with my RedOxx Airboss. Not exactly the same category due to the AirBoss's lack of backpack carry, but I feel similar in packing strategy. Overpacking the Airboss with heavier things (toiletries, electronics), makes airport sprints kind of awkward.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Glad you found it useful =) I'd be interested to see what you think of the Airboss packing style. I haven't tried that one out yet, the carry option with cross shoulder straps looks kinda awkward.

I don't understand why none of these companies (North Face, Patagonia, Osprey) just do all of the carry options :( Just make a bag that has removable backpack, shoulder and carry handles. You'd think this was pretty easy, but no, they seem to make the wrong choises every time. Somehow they seem to think duffel bags are best when carried as backpacks, but that is bullshit, we can already buy backpacks if we want them!!!

Delimično se slažem sa vama jer meni je torba mnogo praktičnija za lične potrebe u odnosu na ranca tako da bih najviše voleo da nema ručke za ranac koji mi smetaju i suvišni su mi.

Great review - thanks. When would this be a better option than the Farpoint 40?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 5 жыл бұрын
Good question! I think it's a better option for people who like the packing style of a duffel bag, compared to a clamshell. Depending on what I'm doing, sometimes I like to have a large top access compartment. It allows you to see all your gear, gives you easy access, and you don't have to spend as much time packing. Just stuff it full, shut the lid, and go. Also because it has durable waterproof fabric, it could be a great option if you're carrying large items, like as a haul bag for rock climbing, or as a weekend camping bag.

Awesome video. After your insight I am planning on getting this bag. What is the best packing cube brand and setup for this particular bag? Also a how to pack for dummies video would be awesome specifically for this model of course!
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Carlos! I love the idea of a "Packing for Dummies" series =) I would recommend any cubes by Eagle Creek, I've had the 2 cubes I show in the video for at least 5 years and still use them constantly. They are the "Pack-It Original Cubes", one is regular, the other is a compression cube. You can buy the medium cubes separately, but the compression cube only comes in a set. That size (14x10x3") fits in the Transporter pretty good, with plenty of room on top. The Spectre Tech are great too, a lighter weight version of the Original Cubes. It's pretty easy to pack duffels, especially a big one like the Transporter. Basiclly put most of your clothes in packing cubes, use smaller organizers for electronics etc. if you need to, and pack the rest of your gear in the empty space. Keep heavy items closer to your back if possible if you're carrying it like a backpack.

@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
Nice, that's a great price! Seems like 2 packing cubes should be enough, plus a small one if you need it, you need room for the rest of your gear. If you're fishing, maybe something like the Patagonia Stealth Pack 30? It's a "fishing" backpack, but also set up for EDC carry with a laptop compartment and external water bottle pockets.

No, it only has one exterior pocket on the end of the bag. It's good for small items, but not big enough for shoes. For this bag you would put your shoes in a separate pouch in the main compartment.

Can it pass for a carry on luggage for air Asia airlines?
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marie! The listed dimension is a tiny bit long, but the bag is soft, so if you don't overpack, it will fit. Asia Airlines carry on dimensions are 22" x 14" x 9" or 56 x 36 x 23 cm (www.airasia.com/us/en/baggage-info/) the Osprey Transport is listed as, 20.9" x 12.2" x 10.6". I've taken many soft sided bags on airplanes with tight restrictions, just don't overpack the bag and you'll be fine.

it has no seals, so it's not only not 100% waterproff it ISNT waterproof. it's just that easy. either a bag is waterproof or not. just using waterproof materials for the same price as really waterproof duffels is not ok.
