Thank you for making this video. For someone who is shy to be in front of camera, you come across as incredibly genuine and relatable. I was recently diagnosed with bilateral otosclerosis and you've allieviated many of my fears and reassured me that things can get better. Thank you for taking the time and having the courage, while going through what you're going through, to help others. Big ups.

I had my left ear operated two days back (27 May). I am asked to lay down all the time but I am doing short walks in flat to stretch, and short breaks to eat / loo. I have lost all tastes except Sweet. I am 41 yr old, male. The more I read, the more i am finding about sound effects. Before surgery i just knew about risk like no benefit or complete loss of hearing. But i never knew about about vertigo, loss of taste, loss of face muscle control or feeling blockage in ear. So i will now stick to my doc’s advice of complete bedrest on opp side for 7 days and except that nerves recover fast and no other issue apart from loss of taste occur. 🙏🏻

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. You have been very helpful and I have been able to relate. I am trying to wrap my head around losing my hearing now in my 40’s. It’s an insidiously evil disease and it certainly affects your psyche. I’ve had my share of issues, but this is life sucking as it robs you of what you once had. You are an inspiration, thank you.

@@andreamartin6841 I was so excited until I found out about something being implanted in my ear😲 So I came here and stumbled across you. And I know you're saying don't be nervous but I had no clue that it's 90 mins for surgery??? That'll be the longest one I've ever had! And they're gonna cut my earlobe and stuff my ear for a week??!😫 I can't put anything in my ears without pain from the pressure as it is! Getting my CT done next week and now I'm freaking out😖 Would it be so bad to say "huh?" forever?? Hearing aids?? Not because you but just me... I'm crazy 😖 Your videos were super informative and you're so happy now so that's the only reason I'm not running to hide under a rock... But some ppls comments were not positive experiences😬

I had the surgery 13 days ago. The operation was performed under general anesthesia. I didn’t feel any pain after the surgery. I’ve stayed in the hospital for 1day. I’ve experienced a massive vertigo right after wake up. It went away slowly on the recovery period. On the 5th day, i was able to spin around myself without any dizziness. I started driving on the 7th day and did not experience any taste issues. I feel the operated ear is kind of blocked but my doc said it will go away in time. I feel some sort of improvement in hearing low frequencies however i hear everything distorted such as like loud microphonic (or robotic) sounds.. the doc said it will be balanced in 3 days. I’m waiting patiently and hoping to recover well..

Thank you for the information. My doctor said the risk is total hearing loss in the ear or ears and lessening of the muscles in your face. (which would look like you had a stroke). I read that loss of facial elasticity can fade, but I wondered if you experienced it.
@andreamartin6841
@andreamartin6841 9 ай бұрын
Hey, yeah that’s why they usually operate on one ear, wait 3 months and then operate on the other ear so if there is an issue with hearing loss on the first one then you can opt out of the second one. I’ve had no loss of muscle in my face, I can smile or frown just like I could before surgeries

Thank you for your response and for the information. Results from the comments I read here seem to vary. I was advised to try a hearing aid first, which I am doing, although hearing aids can be expensive. @@andreamartin6841

Hi girl! I loved finding this. I’ve been diagnosed with otosclerosis a few months ago. I kept feeling weird noises in my ears, like crackings and stuff. And just can’t understand people when they talk in certain volume, but it really hasn’t even been that bad or impairing. I guess they just looked for it because my mom has it and hers is bad, she almost can’t hear in one ear. But I have only a 30% loss in one ear and on the other one I don’t really remember. I was offered the surgery and I’m going for that, but they are hesitating about if they do it now or later after I’ve lost more hearing. I don’t really know what to do, should I get it now and just get it over with or like, wait until it actually affects my life more. Idk why I would wait but they are giving me that option for the surgery to be more “justified” because it doesn’t really affect my quality of life that much. Anyways I don’t really know what to do, I was just wondering what you think about it. Thanks

Tina hey! Sorry I’m a little late on this, I’m not sure on the effects that it’ll have if you get it done before your hearing gets worse. I wish I had an answer for you. If it’s not affecting your daily life so much now then I suppose there’s no harm in waiting but I also think it’s completely up to you!

I have a question: What is your future regarding flying in an airplane? Airplanes and scuba diving (which I don't do anyway) were advised against in my doctor's meeting.

You can fly 6 months after surgery but to diving as the change in pressure can cause harm.
