If you aspire to own a truck camper, you're probably intimidated by the idea of loading and unloading your camper. Today we're taking our truck camper off our Ram 3500 for the first time in almost two years. Lets see how it goes...

😂😂😂 butt clencher for sure...Im at the point now that if it goes over its meant to be. I'm in the hundreds now taking it on and off. Nice thing about a Truck Camper is that you can level it on the most uneven surface! EVEN HILLS!❤🤣👍

KZfaqr 'alicia ard' has a similar factory camper on a Chevy 3500. Replacing a hold-down, she discovered the entire attachment area is rotten... nothing holding it together other than paint. Yikes! . [edited to add] I suggested she swap her bent-wire grocery-store turn-buckles after seeing your video on new turn-buckles. Now, maybe, she intended to swap prior to my comments on her video. I like to believe my karmic debt is a squigen lighter these days.

Mount truck boxes to the camper, then you can mount your front jacks down on the boxes. There’s no need for the front jacks to be up that high on a flatbed

If you look at the 2 inch structural member that the jack’s mount to, you can see that the fridge is just behind that member. That cuts out the support for the cab over. Also that same structural member handles the lifting force and the torsion from dually extensions. That one structural member is the number one catastrophic failure. I have mounted my boxes and to the camper to eliminate that. KZfaq doesn’t allow photos in comments

Great video. Definitely the biggest con to owning a camping is the loading and unloading. Great idea with the rubber pads, going to try and source something this weekend for that purpose. Cheers

Thanks for watching and for the comment! I found those rubber squares at my local True Value hardware store. Hopefully your local hardware store has them too. Cheers!

I M surprised that not many of you Americans come to Canada for some real outdoors experience

We’ve got some videos coming up of our three weeks of travels across Canada this fall. We loved it! We entered up by Grand Portage, Ontario and then drove allllll the way to PEI and Nova Scotia before rewntering the USA in Maine. Beautiful country and beautiful people but the most impressive was how much nicer the cities were. We went to Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City and felt way safer than we do in most US cities

I agree! One extra 6x6 woulda been enough to cover the spread. My 3500 without the camper now sits at like 45”

Nice upgrade. But I'm curious...are your jacks really short? Our unloaded bed height is 48" and we only need a 5.5" (6x6) block. Way less sketchy! 😮 Our jacks are Titan Rieco with about 36" of travel
@thecumminscamper
@thecumminscamper 11 ай бұрын
Good question. I’m not fully sure on the jack length. On our 3500 I used one 5.5” block and it was close so I figured 2 would be needed. I’d be willing to see if when I unload the camper, can I ditch it with only one set of 6x6s.

Good move getting the 5500. What motor is in it? Did the 3500 have the same motor?
@thecumminscamper
@thecumminscamper 11 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, same motor in the 5500 as the 3500. Our favorite, the 6.7 Cummins.
