Our Catamaran Sailboat rigging broke during a storm! We redesigned it and finally have it fixed! It's been built to make it stronger than before and serviceable. We are now ready to sail out of here!

Sometimes the clock is on your side, sometimes it not. When the clock doesn't work with you the best thing to do is accept it. Even if you are in a rush. There are some things that you just can't control and in this instance the tide was not going to wait. Patience is a good thing. It allows for a slower pace in life. So living a lifestyle where things happen at a different pace being able to just accept that you aren't going when you want to and enjoy the "hear and now" makes sense.

Two quick points. I was always taught to fill the sta lock bulb with sikaflex the put it together finally so that it is water tight and you don’t get water and corrosion occurring. Second point do yourself a favor and put a few chain links between your anchor and the swivel. As it is now when you turn in big winds it can bend the swivel ands and they break. It’s happened to many boats.

Hi Mike, after seeing your comment I did some reading in the forums about the sikaflex. Seems like a good idea and one that many people follow however there are also many people who say locktite and lanocoat. I don’t know what’s right. Stay lock fittings come with tefgel already applied so I would like locktite wouldn’t work. We’re going to replace the whole rig in a few months so I have time to study more about it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Regarding the links of chain, yes you’re right. We’re working on that now. This is how the anchor was assembled when we bought the boat. We had no idea it was wrong until you and a few other people mentioned it. Cheers, Corey

With excess sulphur and iron, may be a nice habitat for iron bacteria which may gum up your filters, requiring complete tear down and cleaning. Wise to skip high sulphur waters.

It would be a really good idea to add a shackle and a few links of chain between the anchor and the swivel. The way you have it can cause damage to the swivel by side loading it when the boat moves around.

Hi Laura, thank you so much! This is how it was when we bought the boat. We had no idea it was wrong. I was actually thinking about removing the swivel. I read an article that stated the swivel adds very little functionality and more importantly adds a failure point. I think more research needs done before I make a decision however it’s an interesting point! Thanks again. Corey

Thanks again Steve! You’ve done a great job here! We sailed for about 8 hours yesterday. No reefs. Caught a Tuna! It was a good day. 😊

Looks like a good upgrade/replacement on the seagull striker. Amazingly tight docking. Nice work! Good to see y’all are back on the move

What is a seagull striker? Ties the bows together on a cat to oppose the cabin' s outward push (along with the rigging)? Not familar with multihulls, hope to sail a hobbie 14 this year.

Very nice and robust redesign. If in the future you need to get and install new standing rigging- consider contacting Fountaine Pajot as they may have the exact measurements for your cat's rigging. It is most likely compact strand which is not very common in the US, not all riggers are used to it and can be expensive. My experience was with a 38' Leopard 3 yrs ago where rigging from S African factory was $5K with shipping and it would be $9K made in US.

Didn’t the rigger say something about your headstay attachment… doesn’t look good at all…. Headstay should have a direct connection to the head stem by a double jaw toggle. headstay shouldn’t be attached to that furler’s linkplates…

I wondered about that too. I contacted multiple other Venezia 42 owners and asked them for pictures of how theirs were rigged. They were all the same. When we do the re-rig, we’ll revisit it! Thanks! Corey
