This passage off shore from St. Augustine Florida to Port St. Lucie Florida started out great however we underestimated how fast the sea state changes with a little wind!
Things get a little tense as we try our best to navigate into Port St. Lucie to get out of the wild sea state!

You did a great job for first time really sailing offshore. Going south, just make sure you don't go too far out so that you are fighting the Gulf Stream, there is sometimes a counter current closer to shore. Whenever you are facing waves or current, you have to make a calculation of comfort and safety vs time in rough conditions. Imagine if you had been in a mono hull with those waves and wind.... In that and other inlets, more speed (more rpms) can help you with steerage. Going with a current you want to be going several knots faster than the current to have steerage. Going against a current, enough speed to actually cover ground. Great idea with the bow navigation light.

Good decision making coming into port even though the channel entry had other threats. Those last words of the video are certainly true. Nice job dealing with the challenges. 👍👍

Fort Pierce Inlet is a much better option. Hope y’all enjoyed St Augustine, our Home Port. Cheers

Great first sail!!! Weird question....Is your mainsail fully connected to your mast? It looked like there were grommets that were not connected. If some are missing, wouldn't that put undue stress on the others?
@SaltyEscape
@SaltyEscape Жыл бұрын
Hi guys! I think it’s fully attached. We haven’t removed the main, this is how it was when we bought it! We were told that the main is new… we wonder if it was “new to them” second hand. I’ll give it a close look. That’s for sharing your concerns! Corey

@@johnkosowski3321 We we’re there for several days. There’s a little beach landing under a bridge where you can tie of your dinghy and a Publix just over the bridge. Also a west marine a reasonable walk from the Publix.

@@SaltyEscape Yeah, I have been boating in this area for years. Did you go to Peanut Island? There is world class snorkelling here. I hope you go or are at Bimini. If so, go to the Sapona, Honeymoon harbor, Ebbies Bone Fish Grill, Stuarts, Radio Beach, Three daughters, Big Game Club for the Bull sharks, Thirsty Turtle, and even the Resort. The back side of North Bimini is absolutely spectacular at low tide where lots of beach comes out of the water and there is no one to be seen in either direction. If you went to Grand Bahama, that is cool too!
