We use AAR and AAS, and I love both. The guide does say to wait to start AAS until you have finished level 1 of AAR. I think it's genius how it reinforces the same phonics teaching that they learned in AAR, but with additional rules that are specific to encoding for spelling vs. Decoding for reading.

Shawna, I pray for a peaceful and smooth birth and recovery for you and your family. I always enjoy hearing from you, and I'm so sorry for all of the stress you've encountered as of late ❤. No worries and certainly no pressure on the Spanish curriculum review. I think it's so wonderful, too, that you're giving yourself permission to just focus on the priorities and not set unrealistic expectations. Also, as you've also mentioned, I've reminded myself and given myself permission recently to really just use whatever curriculum in the way it works for us, sometimes cutting out portions, adding things in, or tweaking things. Love you ❤🙏

Thank you ❤️ prayers are always so appreciated. I’m so glad that you’re using your curriculums in ways that serve you instead of letting them be stressful.

Don’t be too hard on yourself! This too shall pass. You are doing the main subjects, and you are together, that’s the most important. You’ll be feeling better before you know it! I had my 5th baby this year also, and man what a roller coaster. My pregnancies and deliveries have gotten harder and more sporadic with each one. So things were very challenging. But now my little guy is 5 months and we’ve almost gotten back on track, and even better than before. You’ve got this!! Don’t blame you for putting your foot down with your midwives, good for you! ❤❤❤

You’re so right about those things being the most important. And girl, something about these 5th babies 🤣 this pregnancy has definitely been the one thats most like a roller coaster. But also a huge blessing.

We are loving IEW and FitIt. We are using Bible Heros this year and next year Im using Community Helpers as a group subject bc I have a young 1st and 3rd grader. I think you could use any of the subject sets as a whole group study bc the writing and difficulty depends on what you want them to do...very adaptable. Also, quick lessons too. Maybe 15 mins plus their work 3-4 times a week plus the final draft day.

Yes! I was thinking of doing Bible heroes for them next year. I’m glad to hear it’s not a crazy idea to make it a group subject.

In a difficult time of our lives, a dear sister reminded me of this verse in Job about the Lord..."I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. (Job 42:2, ESV) I hope it helps to know that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and so are His ways and that He is good and does good to all His children. His plans can't be thwarted and we can trust Him because He is our heavenly Father who dearly loves us. While we were still sinners Christ died for us! So when the waves come let us hold firm to our anchor. It has been a hard year...But God has been faithful as always. Thank you for sharing this update ❤

Thanks for the update! You are always an encouragement and one of my favorite homeschool KZfaqrs! I hope you have a smooth, quick recovery! It’s never been a walk in the park for me 😬 School was becoming a dread for my 5th grader and therefore also for me. We ended up switching from Christian Light Education to Master Books, Explode The Code, and a combination of a few other things. It has been life-changing! School is simplified, more fun for all of us, and we actually have time for other things, including time together to read and play games. So thankful!!! Loved hearing your reviews on the curriculum here! Super helpful! Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎄🎁❤️

You made the right call standing your ground. I ignored red flags with my midwife and regretted it later. Thankfully my birth went well overall other than her doing a few things that were disrespectful and against what we had agreed upon for my birth plan. But I heard other stories about this midwife after the fact that made me so thankful that my baby and I were safe. I'm sorry you aren't getting what you wanted for your birth though! I pray the birth center will be a beautiful experience for you ❤

I’ve since found out from others more issues with her. It made me feel so validated since you start to wonder if you’re just being emotional and picky. I’m so sorry you had similar issues. So glad it all worked out and you and baby were safe ❤️ I totally believe this was God taking is out of an unsafe situation. Even if it was SO stressful to be dropped so close to my due date.

And oh no! I was planning to use SCM next year! 🤦‍♀️ it's so hard to pick out curriculum when different people have such different opinions. Especially literature based curriculum gets sooo expensive so don't want to waste money.... I'm drawn to it because of how they put bible and history together to give context. Now I have to think about it more lol Thank you for your perspective on it!

@@mamarobinson5024 I’ll try to do a review and flip through on it in the coming months. That way you can see inside. Sometimes what someone dislikes can be someone else’s selling point. And you’re right, some of them are so expensive so it’s hard to make that investment when you’re not sure if it’s worth it!

I am so sorry about your midwife drama. I am praying for a peaceful delivery. I liked AAR and despised AAS as well. I just used the lists too. Math U SEE didn’t work for my 1st grader either. By the time we got to subtraction she was hating math. I switched her to CLE which has mastery and spiral learning as well as covering so many topics. Now she can count money, tell time and so much more. I really wanted to buy the Slimply Charlotte Mason history, but when I downloaded a sample of Egypt and Her Neighbors and read it to my kids they were not getting anything from it. It was so hard to keep them engaged.

I’m glad you didn’t want a midwife who didn’t sound good enough!!! Praying for you!!! I’m fighting for a different doctor at the moment and I’ve made it known I’m using a different provider but my last provider keeps contacting me, I’m letting them know I don’t want to use them!!! Nothing wrong with doing less at the moment, languages will come and at your kids ages apps are enough!!! When we can’t do science and history I asgin a bit of science to my older daughter and the others I know will be ok even if they want to follow her path!!! Next year will be hard but it be worth it!!! I love seeing my older kids being so close as they are close in age!!! We sold AAS as we couldn’t use it, my kids couldn’t get it!!!
