We are back for a new episode in our Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 series!
We know, we know.... The SP2 has been missing from action the past couple of weeks, and you'll see why in this video.
Unfortunately, we discovered a leak on our Ducati. Hector spotted it one day, so we started the SP2 to warm up the oil, and it confirmed the worst. A pretty significant leak coming from the oil pan!
So we parked the SP2, and have been waiting for the necessary parts to re-seal the oil pan. But now we've got them!
What we've got to do is drain the oil, remove the oil pan from the engine block, then clean off all the old gasket material. If you are following along doing a similar job on your bike, make sure you leave the surface as clean as possible so that the surfaces mate correctly. And make sure not to scuff up the surfaces by using a metal scraper! We used plastic scrapers instead.
Lastly, we need to add new gasket material and re-install all the parts to spec.

Ducati, the "Italian Harley Davidson"! For as much as this bike cost, and to have this issue with such low miles, I would definitely have the dealer do the warranty repair. Just in case this reoccurs later, it's documented. After the warranty expires, I'd gladly do it myself.

Great Job! You are no bodger! I read in the comments that you installed new bolts. Torque value and then the angle of twist will usually lengthen the bolt beyond its yield limit, so reusing the bolt is not advisable.

Wanted a Ducati forever. Finally bought a V4S and it was nothing but problems the entire time I owned it. From leaking issues to air in the clutch system. $32k bike that left me stranded on the side of the road with only 1100 miles on it. Never again. I’m back on a 2023 S1000RR. Never looking back. Some of the best looking bikes on the road but Ducatis IMO are not worth the money or the hassle

I have heard several front bank cam covers as well, coolant from weep hole seema very common too. Part of the charm unfortunately. Hopefully the oil pan will be good to go, after fix

nice job - one think tho if its a new or still under guarantee bike and its leaking (and this is for the most of us out there) take it to the dealer, let them fix it, have it documented properly cause if there is something else with the bike that you can not deal with by yourself down the road you will save your self lots of frustration - besides if under guarantee you do not have to pay for anything - enjoy

Mani, the bolts for the sump look similar to the engine side cover bolts which are "one-time use only" type bolts. Is this the case?
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Жыл бұрын
Yes they are one time use. We had ordered new ones. What you see on the video with the cardboard is only a reference for me to make sure I know which ones were the longer bolt, as if I remember correctly 3 bolts were longer, and rest were the shorter bolts. But it also helped me with the torque sequence, as I wrote down the numbers on the cardboard to follow, rather than keep looking at the service manual.

Leaking oil : 1st time I hear it occurs on a V4SP2. 🤔 You've been so unlucky ( which is statistically improbable) or you just missed something in the running-in , 'cos such issue after 335 miles is frequent on bikes like Harleys but absolutely it's not on Ducatis...

I have a 2023 SP2 and it’s not leaking. However, I followed a normal break-in. I didn’t exceed about 8k rpms until the first service. You guys ragged on this bike and redlined it on the dyno numerous times. Maybe that didn’t give the seals proper heat cycles not under high loads time to bed in. My two cents.
@Motomillion
@Motomillion Жыл бұрын
The silicone sealant used has a full cure time of 24 hours. Taking a bike to redline is not ragging on it. Look up our dyno break in video and we explain why we feel comfortable doing so and knowing so. We don't listen to old wives tales, we listen to proper engineers who work for manufacturers and are involved with the engineering process of many engines. The leak has nothing to do with the break in procedure.
