This is why I like the Bilstein BlackHawk e2 on the TRX. Dual valve digitally tunable digressive shock with reservoir. Not a pillow like Fox, so many people say it’s “harsh” comparatively. Well yes. It is for several reasons. Reasons: more handling on street (95% of driving), very planted without the floating boat feeling, much more driver feedback in the steering wheel & seat (sense of terrain/road), less body roll & pitch, no boat like floating feeling, takes harsh impacts easier because it’s designed specifically to hit harder and more comfortable at higher piston velocity, less chassis rattle, lasts longer due to less internal force at high velocity, and it’s tunable at the press of a button to your desired drive quality. Many guys think “Baja” is the softest, select it, then are disappointed when they feel all the small bumps on their commute… Baja mode an aggressive configuration (though sport mode has quicker rebound) meant to resist a 7k lb ballistic missile launching at peak 702hp take offs, jumping, and slamming down on soft earth. Street mode is the softest configuration. Some dudes have taken the suspension out because Baja wasn’t soft enough and thrown in a set of manually tunable Kings. 🤦‍♂️ They’ll bottom the truck out on a jump, destroy the 5th strut struggling alone, and cause far too much chassis & driveline jostle.

I've had them all and I still stand by Fox with a custom tune. Off the shelf they can either make your ride better or worse. I always change out my shocks on factory vehicles except my RZR. It does help I have a few tuner buddies that help me fine tune my shocks but I've never been happy with off the shelf shocks. Even companies that claim they tune their shocks for your vehicle. Every vehicle is different along with specific applications. From my experience, Fox has the best technology hands down. Also, set it forget it shocks are not ideal. Always opt for adjusters with whatever brand you get. That way you can accommodate for different loads and terrain. This is from about 20 years of my personal experience.

We love Fox as well but it's not always made for everyone. We run them on our own vehicles but these are full off-road rigs. We do like to ask consumer who are interested in parts to give us as much details to their build goals, truck usage or driving style and so forth.

@@ShockSurplus Same here. I had a fully built 02 Ford Ranger with Camburg long travel front and Deavers in the rear with shock hoops through the bed. Of course my RZR is only off-road and the custom tune I have on those shocks made a huge difference. My Ranger first had set it and forget it Fox all around and then I went King set it and forget it. Both sets I ran stock and they were custom tuned. I went full adjustable custom tuned Fox and I was blown away. My 2012 had a mid travel kit with custom tuned Fox 2.5 coil overs. Ran the stock tune and I wasn't impressed. I had custom tuned Fox 2.0 non resi on my 2017 Ford F250 and now have Fox FRS 2.5 w DSCs. Night and day difference. Especially when towing. Even my dirt bikes and quads have custom tuned factory shocks. Nothing compares to a custom tune. As far as the different brands, I would say there is a little difference but the tune is what makes it great. Only off the shelf shock I've ran without any tunes was bilstein on my wife's Expedition. Oh, and Monroes on my sedans. I've never had a non adjustable off the shelf shock work good at all off-road.

I just installed rear fox 2.0 on an lowered f150 with rear flip kit and they are superior to 3 different drop shocks i have tried in the past. Djm, belltech street & performance. With thw fox you get great comfort but also get great control and dont bottom out like the belltech streets. Somehow, fox got both aspects in one shock compared to the rest i tried. @ShockSurplus
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
All three would probably do well enough, but you could save your self some money and a lot of maintenance by going with a set of Bilsteins or Eibachs for the way you are using it. These high end options are killer, and can be set up and tuned to be pretty comfortable and stable, but a less expensive set of Bilsteins or Eibachs would more than handle your needs for less money and require next far less service if they ever need it at all.

That's why we take the time to test them on our own vehicles for you so that if anybody ever reaches out for a suspension upgrade, we can offer advice based off our real-world experiences with the shocks we sell. The newest rig in the fleet is our 2022 Bronco, which is on its 7th set of shocks in the last year and more are on the way. Every time we test something new we post a review video with a detailed article, and add the parts and our thoughts about them to buyers guides so you can get all the knowledge we've gained from all the miles of testing in one place.

@@ShockSurplus well I have ironman on my vehicle right now for about 6 months and still looking good. My old one was icon, which was on my vehicle for 3 years. About a year in my vehicle, it started to rust. And 2 years after, it is so rusted it's not worth to rebuild it just by how rusted it is. So I did my research and called ironman and ask questions. They told me that icon, fox, and king are just coated with zinc, which he said will wear out after a year. While theirs is painted with layers. That's why they can warrant Thiers suspension for 3 years, while the others have 1 year warranty. So far I'm happy with my ironman. The real test is this winter coming up.
