Thanks for the comment and the sub! Its a very intimidating wave to ride. Someone has hit the rock before and broken their back. The lip has also dislocated a few shoulders and tweaked some knees. Its rough out there. There were a few guys with long hair but the one I think you are talking about is Jarret Johnson

as someone whos surfed it, can confirm its a monster and you gotta sit deep too! That shoulder is way steep to take it slow so you just gotta send it.

@@DavidMcMaster Best month for Taranaki is April. Great weather, lots of swell and few crowds. I would like to visit South Africa - JBay especially. But what about crime, thieves, safety etc.?

I highly recommend a trip here, world class surf and scenery and your dollars will go far - there is a bit of crime but just stick to a reputable surf tour company and they will handle everything for you - for JBay you want to be here June/July - my mate runs: southafricasurftours.com/
