Thanks for tuning in today - we appreciate it!

Thank you to everyone who has given us tips and advice on what to do while we are here in Australia! We have quickly discovered (especially from most of the comments), that Starbucks is NOT the place to go for a good cup of coffee 😂 but don’t worry, we have found some of the local coffee shops and restaurants, and we are impressed! But hey - we still wanted to try the differences between our Canadian McDonald’s and your Aussie Macca’s 😉 Australia is very new to us, and we are super excited to be introduced to the culture and flow of life here (with or without the Starbucks coffee 😉). Thanks again to all of you who have watched and commented on this video 🙂

Welcome to Australia & Brisbane! So funny to us that you got coffee from Starbucks.. as you can see from all of the other comments. Your Go card is a public transport card for greater Brisbane area.. including south to Gold Coast & north to Sunshine coast (both are beautiful beach areas) you can use it on buses, trains, ferries etc… so a great way to get around. There are top up machines at stations so you can recharge by card payment. Places to visit - Southbank parklands & lagoon, lone pine koala sanctuary, Sunny & Gold coasts, hinterland areas, Redcliffe peninsula, beach suburbs etc etc. Enjoy 😊

It's so weird to see my city in a KZfaq video. Thanks for giving us such a good review ❤ The thing that makes the Aussie Angus burger different is the Beetroot. It's not a proper hamburger in Oz if there's no Beetroot. The Angus part is just a gimmick, they market Angus Beef as a premium, when in fact almost all the beef we eat here is Angus beef anyway. Welcome to Brisbane! 😁

For eleven years, I use to run the city cleansing operations in Brisbane which included the CBD, the city and Chinatown malls and the road infrastructure spreading out into the suburbs of Brisbane. I also use to drive buses for 'Translink' and there's nothing prohibiting you from recording or taking photos on public transport in SE Queensland. Some people are just paranoid about cameras. If you're still in Brisbane, a few hours at 'Southbank' is never wasted. A beach in the middle of the city!

G’day and welcome to Aus. Great video! Couple of handy hints: don’t bother with Starbucks - it largely failed here. You’ll want an espresso type coffee from pretty much any cafe. Flat white is the most common (coffee with milk). The further south you go, the more seriously we take our coffee. Sydney is good but Melbourne reigns supreme. Our go to cheap foods are sandwiches, pies, sushi, and kebabs. Good quality almost everywhere including supermarkets and malls. It is still bloody expensive compared to Bali though. Gosh I miss the warung food… Hope you have a great time and let me know if you want insider hints for Sydney if you’re headed down here.

@@drewanthonyb - nice one mate! 👍 Glad you’re heading this way. Time & budget dependent: 1. Get an Opal card at any 7/11 or convenience store. That gives you all public transport… but don’t worry - in Sydney you can tap on and off with your Visa/Mastercard - saves the purchase of a card - unless you want a souvenir. Works for buses, trains, trams & ferries. 2. Love Asian food? Get lost around the Chinatown area and see how amazing the Japanese, Korean, and Thai food is too. Top class and too many choices. Try the food court at Market Place above Paddy’s Market (also worth a visit for ridiculous tourist knick-knacks). 3. Definitely recommend a ferry to Manly, and/or a ferry to Cockatoo Island; or for a simple quick tour - walk across the Bridge (visiting the pylon lookout en route) and then walk down to Luna Park and catch the ferry back to Circular Quay. 4. Don’t miss the Botanical Gardens and that Instagram famous shot from Mrs Macquarie’s chair. Easy walk from Circular Quay. 5. Every tourist seems to head to Bondi, which I think is over-rated; but definitely do at least part of the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk if you have the time. 6. If you have time for a day/overnight trip, get to Katoomba and the Blue Mountains - it’s 100% worth it. 7. If you see a queue in the Chinatown area (generally Mamak’s Malaysian food & Messina Gelato ice cream) then I guarantee you it’s worth the wait to join it. 8. Taronga Zoo. Don’t worry about other wildlife experiences - take the ferry then gondola and enjoy the zoo with the finest views in the world. You may even get to pat a kangaroo, if you want a more immersive hands-on Aussie animal experience - take a tour to Featherdale Wildlife Park. Get there early in the morning when the critters are hungry and you’ll get to feed them and get the best “cuddle Aussie wildlife” shots guaranteed to make family and friends jealous, I’ll stop here, but let me know if I can help any more.

Welcome to Brisbane! Glad you chose to start your Aussie adventure here instead of the cliche Sydney or Melbourne. Also big props for pronouncing Brisbane properly straight out the bag. I won't give you the same guff about the Starbucks thing. What I will say though is the Apple store you ended up in is actually in a building called MacArthur Chambers. It's the building which General Douglas MacArthur based himself during his time in Australia in the wartime. In fact if you were to walk around the side of the building and up the hill some, there's another entrance which has a lift in it that takes you up to a museum and you can stand in his office, which has been preserved exactly as it was. Sorry about the GoCard thing. It's ridiculous. They should be changing it to tap on/off with phone NFC soon...

Welcome to Aus. It will feel a bit odd at first - a bit like Alice through the looking glass. Like home but different. And some of the language will seem odd. We shorten everything (eg Uni for University, Sickie for Sick Day etc) and have some ever changing slang like bogan, Westie, Galah, etc. My first work day here in 1985 I called a supplier and he said “No worries mate no worries, she’l be done sarvo”. These days I understand it and sometimes slip into it myself. Watch out for the ocean - the rips here are notorious and can catch you even in shallow water. Don’t fight them - they will dump you back on a sandbank or beach further down. Don’t worry about the wildlife. most of it wants to be left alone and wil leave you alone. Crocs may take you if they can, sharks will take a leg off and you die of shock or blood loss, the jellyfish paralyse you, you can’t swim or walk and you drown, but the spiders and snakes aren’t as big a problem as you think. Don’t pick a fight with a Big Red, as they wil disembowel you with one forward kick. In fact don’t pick a fight with any Roo. You will lose. If you go bush take water - LOTS of water, carry petrol. Don’t expect GPS or a cell phone to work. It won’t. Tell people where you are going, and if you get bogged, lost or break down STAY WITH THE VEHICLE. Put bush people really care and they WILL find you. Aboriginal trackers are legendary, although sadly a lot of the skill has gone these days. Agree with everyone else - starbucks is crap down under. Lots of little coffee shops serve far better coffee, with a smile, and need the business. And enjoy the adventure!

There's not a great deal of attractions just in Brisbane (but Mt Coot Tha, South Bank, Lone Pine are good). We dont have iconic stuff like the Opera House/Harbour Bridge in Sydney (although the upcoming Queens Wharf could be a worthy contender) but South East Queensland (SEQ) and Queensland have a ton of incredibly amazing places that you shouldn't miss. Head down to the Gold Coast and if you've got time, up to the Sunshine Coast too - Noosa/Mooloolaba/Caloundra. Moreton Island is great too.

An Angus burger is made from Angus beef which comes from a breed of cattle that makes for juicier meat when cooked. And yes, the swooping bird sign is about the magpie, which swoops down and attacks you. There are many magpies in that area. An Australian native bird that when in breeding season (usually Spring/Summer) the nesting magpies get very territorial and will swoop down and peck your head, which can cause injury, which is why you see people on bikes wear zip ties protruding from their stack hats (helmets) to deter the magpies from attacking you. It’s especially worse when you’re travelling fast on a bike, or moped etc. It wasn’t long ago that kids used to wear ice cream containers/buckets with eyes drawn on them to scare of the birds. I think the reason you’re not allowed to film on public transport, is so passengers can feel at ease, when using the public transport system, without fear of being filmed. People still pull out their phones and film when there’s a racist attack (usually some drunk bogan giving an Asian a hard time)or some kind of nasty thing going on, or a fight, which they then post on social media. It doesn’t happen much, but it can. I think the $10 go-card is a rip-off, and you should only be paying for the fair but I guess Brisbane City Council has to make their revenue somehow, to pay for the clean streets, and such. Thank you for visiting. It’s not only older people who will be friendly. Brisbane is well known for its warm friendly and inviting people/environment. It’s often refereed to “still a small country town”. Hope that won’t change as our city infrastructure gets bigger, with new builds and projects under way, preparing for the Olympics next decade.

Some roads/bridges are toll roads and when we hired a car and used Google maps we ended up having to purchase a toll pas s from a 7/11. If you do hire a car, make sure your car hire company gets a copy of that receipt as our car hire company tried to make up pay a $40 penalty.

them: 'What are they gonna swoop at? Our heads?' Me: Yes- Also tip for when you are here again make sure that you wear some sort of sun protection, even in winter, QLD is the cancer capital of the world! Also when you order from Hungry Jacks(Burger King) when you say Whopper, don't pronounce the 'er', say it as whoppa, seen a few people struggle with it lol! You can also tour old Parliament house and see the old room parliament was held in, it was super interesting and I highly recommend I got to go there during 6th grade!

Anyone visiting Brisbane for even a few days should get over the Stradbroke Island. Easy to do by public transport/Ferry - Point Lookout. The Gorge Walk is very special and you'll see a myriad of wild life and sea creatures including Whales if it's the right time of year.

Streets are clean...thats because we have garbage collectors collecting the trash from bins etc. They come quite often here. Seems weird that wouldn't happen in Canada - maybe the influence of your neighbour at work there lol
