Drones is a massively underappreciated album. I think it's because it came out after The 2nd Law which kinda put a lot of people off and made the general audience think that Muse lost their early sounds and also because a few of the singles did sound more poppy than the really heavy hitting, really high quality tracks like The Handler, Reapers, Aftermath or The Globalist, which got overlooked. It might also have to do with the fact that they didn't do a stadium tour for this, which maybe made it feel smaller and i think it's such a shame because there was so much thought and polish put into this album, their sound is as heavy as ever and it lets go of the more electronic elements from The 2nd Law, it's their first full on concept album with a story and reoccuring characters and both the tour and the album were heavily inspired by Pink Floyd's The Wall. I think this album deserves more love and with the release of Won't Stand Down, luckily a lot of people are going back and checking it out. I'm so glad you wanna listen to The Globalist, it's my favourite song from Drones and it's a fkn masterpiece

We are going to do The Globalist tomorrow evening!

Also how does the following album after Drones fair? Seems like they went more 80s electronic again. Did the fans embrace it or did they not like it as much?

@@FlameImperishable My opinion is that Simulation Theory feels a bit aimless. They recorded each song individually and slowly released them which meant they didn't have an overarching view of how they wanted it, which in practise, meant that it feels like two different and mismatched albums. One half is that really cool 80's synthpop, nostalgia vibes and cyberpunk references (which was also the main aesthetic for the art direction of the promotional material and the gigs) and another half of experimental and more poppish songs which don't really fit and diverge from that aesthetic. Taken individually, all the songs in Simulation Theory are awesome and creative, but as a whole, it lacks some cohesion, which was also a problem for many people with The 2nd Law, although i'd argue that the aim of T2L was to make a very experimental and diverse album and it succeeded flawlessly. Consider though, that fans are always a little behind on what the band makes, which cause most new songs to be underappreciated and only loved later on after they sunk in a little bit. This is the case with many songs on Simulation Theory and it has been the same for their latest 4 or 5 albums, so i say, trust your gut and listen to some of the tracks (i recommend The Dark Side, Algorithm, The Void, Blockades, Thought Contagion and Dig Down Acoustic Gospel and if you wanna hear some different sounding tracks, then Break it to Me, Pressure and Propaganda).

@@FlameImperishable I love most of simulation theory, it's not as good as most other albums to me but it's still very good, one thing which I think the other guy already said, it feels kinda aimless, after the first couple songs it doesn't feel like there's continuity or theme connecting the songs, in drones the term "drones" and things relating to it are mentioned a lot, that's what makes that album stand out but all their albums have some sense of that, albums that come to mind are origin of symmetry and absolution Both absolution and origin of symmetry have a lot of love related themes, but showed differently, absolution has time is running out which is fairly on the nose, and it also has stockholm syndrome and hysteria which are both about ways that love can become or come from toxicity and obsession Origin of symmetry has a theme of masochistic love, and disconnection Sorry I kinda started rambling about the wrong thing

I love your reactions. When you notice the classical and rock influences that Matt uses, i say to myself 'Finally someone sees and feels that!' Please check out the Album Origin of Symmetry, very powerful, dark, alternative, space rock stuff. My suggestion Muse - Citizen Erased. Love your work! Keep it up guys. From Portugal

Thank you, Alan! I think that’s what makes them stand out to me so much. Incorporating classical influences like Chopin, Elgar, Debussy, Bach, etc… within the context of modern rock/pop music works so well. It creates a huge dramatic backdrop giving everything so much more gravity.

That is nowhere near Matt's highest note in his range. Live he goes an octave higher on the last chorus note, and that's still not near his highest note.

The Bach-like solo is also used on a Muse song from 2002 called In You World, which was written in context to the aftermath of 9/11, along side Dead Star (both of these are amazing songs. Maybe do a reaction to them? 💛)

We did a few videos without any drinks, but to be honest... I felt awkward and self conscious struggling to find things to say. I found that one glass of wine really eases the nerves and gets my mouth running non-stop - for better or worse! 🙂 Are there any stand out tracks from the following album we should check out? Simulation Theory, I mean?

Please react to showbiz it's a fan favourite and it's probably one of their best song! Also, for the vocalist Matt can go much higher in terms of his range. Showbiz has his highest ever studio recorded note a G# 5

I like your reactions, good job guys, also the game is the classic Darkstalkers where the famous Morrigan and Felicia made their first appearance. A piece of advice if I'm allowed, break your concepts of what a "sellout" is, no artist that is signed is doing it for charity, otherwise they would still playing in their Garag. Music in general can be hard to produce and yes pop is known for being plastic and made as a product, but it doesn't necessarily means (in most cases) that vocals behind it or instruments are sh*t if you open to those ideas, if you open your mind to new sounds you can get inspiration for something great or at least to appreciate the broad spectrum of voices and sounds out there...this is the reason muse is able to play even Dubstep with their instruments (Usustainable, listen to it of possible). Bottom line, it also can help you to make your channel grow to react and analyze other songs out there you haven't listen to yet. Just a thought...and apparently a long one haha, cheers.

Hmm, good thoughts! I think you may be misunderstanding me though. I’m not against music just because it is profitable! I mentioned that story about when I first heard Muse challenging my idea that pop music could be good - that was in 2003! Over the past 20 years I’ve grown beyond that mindset that catchy marketable music is simply always bad. Of course it most often is bad but I guess you could say that about anything- especially underground unprofitable music too! Anyway… yes I completely agree with you!

Oh and nice job on guessing the game! I love that game but lately I’ve been playing Garou Mark of the Wolves and King of Fighters 2002 UM!

Very different voice but thinking about climbing the octaves, Hannah Reid of London Grammar does this a decent bit, and Rooting For You is probably the most extreme example. Like Matt does in this song (3:36-3:42) a bit also descending slightly before each jump up. Here it is live at Lowlands festival 2017. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qs6Ae5CJrt_JpoU.html I left a few reaction recommendations on a previous vid, but a few more, this time all female vocalists: Skink Anansie - Picking on me or Hedonsim (maybe a cover, though Skin's lyrics are often a little sketchy). The Joy Formidable - Maw Maw Song (for some reason the idea of sloshing a tankard of ale back and forth seems right for the chorus bit of this song) Marmozets - Hit the wave (here live from Audiotree studio) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bN-YnbKatZfTZHU.html
