I met my wife 40 years ago in high school at a dance. I was 18 and she was 16. She was the only one in color. Everything else was gray black and white. We only danced with each other, totally in love and mesmerized instantly. I got her number and asked her out the next morning and we've been madly in love ever since. We were each other' s first and only. Still make love every day 2-3 times. Best friends. I cry when I hear this song and my throat is in a knot.

The man who wrote this song was blessed to reach the top of the mountain and he described it perfectly. I've been to that mountain and I knew when I reached it, it was my reason for living.

Clint Eastwood put the album version in his directorial debut PLAY MISTY FOR ME (1971), nearly 3 years after it was recorded (she was relatively unknown), and she said she wanted to re-record it first because she thought it was too slow - Clint said "No, it's not!" and put the full, long album song in the film - it rapidly went to #1 on the charts and remained there for six weeks - so beautiful it puts all other versions(including the one here) to shame. You really need to hear that PERFECT recording of hers.

This is the song I think of when remembering when my two children were born. Roberta Flack was so gifted a person/singer/musician. You don;t hear this kind of music or singing, pure town and breath control and phrasing, anymore. they always have to make a big opera out of it, rather than be about the song. Roberta Flack was the greatest....she BECAME the song.

Roberta is sublime. Her voice is like a warm breeze flowing. And she's a gifted piano player too, as you can see. I've loved her songs for many years. "Killing Me Softly" is another of her stellar hits. I hope you will check out her song "Jesse" - written by Janis Ian, another fabulous singer/songwriter you must listen to. Try to find Roberta's live version from 1975 accompanied by the ESO (Edmonton Symphony Orchestra). It always brings me to tears. I would love to watch your reactions to it. Thanks.

My respect for both of you just went up 1000 % when you mentioned and know just who Billie Holiday is. In that era of the " GREAT" jazz singers Roberta Flack would have no problem keeping pace with those greats because she's also in a league of her own. Right up there with Nina Simone too. She's the real deal with a voice of grace and beauty. I love Roberta and respect her as a truly accomplished musician. As you've found out, one of the best versions of this song anywhere, anytime, anyplace. *cheers*

I got married for the one and only time in 1981, just turned 18 and this is one of the songs that was played and sung. I also had The Wedding Song by Peter, Paul and Mary, Annie's Song by John Denver and What a Difference You Made in My Life. I had 2 acoustic guitar players, males, that also sang. It was great.

I love the lyrics,The first time,ever I lay with you,I felt your heart,so close to mine...and I knew our joy would fill the earth,and last,till the end of time,my love...So many songs about sex today,so few about making love for the first time to the one you truly love...💞🎙🎶

Roberta Flack has a number of hits in the number of duets with people like Donny Hathaway and people Bryson. She was very close to Donny Hathaway, and when he passed it kind of hit her hard. She was very underrated, but had a pure voice.

This song actually won the 'Song of The Year' award in the United States in December of 1972. So it was a pretty big deal. I prefer the studio version much more than this live version because the production is so much better and clearer, and Roberta's voice is much more powerful on the studio version. But it's nice to listen to regardless.

You guys must have found my BEST love - making songs ever! She is AWESOME. I saw her live years ago (42?) when she played & sung on the steps of the US Capitol. You know, when people used to ALL get together for a nice picnic dinner with wine, French bread, cheese & grapes...? Remember? I do. A really SAD song by her is called "Jesse". Get some Kleenex first.

'First Time, Ever I Saw Your Face NOT, "I Ever" saw your face. Even after listening to it the whole way through, you still got it wrong. Then, later when you prepared to post this, and gave your video a title, you got the song title wrong again! Very amateurish, as is talking all over the singing.
