Sofia is a great city, I spent there some days a few years ago. I also recommend the Bulgarian beaches on the other side of the country.

Yes! We found out quickly from the Bulgarian friends we made, that Plovdiv is a place we need to visit. In the train from Bucharest, we saw so many beautiful landscapes that we must come back and visit!

Hello my dear couple, I ve been following you for a while, you whent to allmost all places where I also was, I liked the Bulgarian food very much. Its like mediteranian food. But much cheeper. (Joghurt, olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, latice, fried meat very good)

We agree! The food was top notch, and definitely reminded us of Greek food. We like it so much, we are going to try and learn a few of the dishes and start cooking them when we can.

Fun fact: Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Greek cars use only the capital letters that are common among their script and latin script on the license plates.
@OnePackWanderers
@OnePackWanderers 2 жыл бұрын
I noticed this, and wondered why! I assume it has to do with an EU regulation around uniformity?
@LaPingvino
@LaPingvino 2 жыл бұрын
@@OnePackWanderers it makes it easier to register/read cross-border. It's a relatively new thing and I don't know if there are rules requiring this on an EU level but I suppose not. Also Russia does this too now and UA and RU are not EU. It even makes national registration easier bc you don't require a system to support complicated character sets, you can just type them with the latin keyboard. All other charsets play second fiddle to the English alphabet bc of ASCII.

There was an agriment in Vienna, the Austrian capital many, many years ago. According it, if your car is moving abroad, on it the letters must be in latin and chifres in arabic. So in Siria in 1985 at each car left side was with latin letters and arabic chifres for abroad and right side - with arabic letters and indian chifres for inside the country. Excuse me about my English.

Nice! :-) 2:30 yes, all express trains in Romania have obligatory reservation, so that was correct. Previously, this was one train going through to Sofia, they seemed to have changed it to a DMU on the Romanian side, so maybe that's why you could not find your seats. 2:39 Since India 2012 I would recommend packets of moist toilet paper on every trip... ;-) No matter if you are going on a luxury spa vacation or on an adventure - it just makes you completely independent from water and the existence/quality of toilet paper (you know, the kind that crumbles in your hand ;-)) 3:48 I hope you looked outside for the last 2 hours before Sofia, as the train passes through the Iskar Gorge, on of the most spectacular landscapes crossed by railroad lines in Europe. Sofia is in the middle of an abundance of some of the greatest landscapes, several mountain ranges, etc. 7:37 nice, we once ate there in the background a few years ago. (however, it was a 35 degree C day, so did not walk around too far) 10:05 a postcard would be lovely, but the historically interesting church is the one of St. Sofia (which is not an actual saint, but supposed to represent wisdom) next to it, I hope you went in there, too. Sofia also features a greatly preserved large synagogue. In case you missed it, this is the Iskar Gorge: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdOJdqerqZ6bpZc.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8l1ZMWIyratnYk.html

@ronik24 DMU? The odd part is that, in Romania, they printed separate tickets for the Bulgarian train. Yet still, no seats with our numbers anywhere to be found. Yes, we were lucky to have some wipes left in our bag 😅 Our new friends on the train pointed out the gorge, and gave us some knowledge on some of the landmarks and villages we passed through. Very beautiful terrain. Yes! We saw the other church of St. Sofia and the synagogue (and the mosque too).

@Ulfi G. Rosna Flashpacking! Never heard that term before, but it works so well! After trying this style of travel, I don't think we could do it any other way. It works well for us, at least. Have fun on your Eurotrip! Is there a destination you're most excited for? Indonesia is easily in the top 5 spots we'd like to see. We are currently working on a way to visit, so hopefully that works out within the next few months.
