🚨 CHECK OUT my new AFL video essays here: • AFL Video Essays
This documentary produced in 2008 by the Herald Sun in conjunction with Channel Seven was released over two DVDs that accompanied a series of magazines available with the paper, celebrating 150 years of the sport. Interviews with Mike Sheahan, Mark Robinson and Jon Anderson are spliced throughout clips and images from the HWT archives. This particular production, hosted by Sandy Roberts and narrated by Jason Bennett, unsurprisingly focuses entirely on the VFL/AFL - it may as well be called 50 Years of Victorian Football. Alas, for fans of the game it is still a decent watch and it is now available on KZfaq for the first time.

This is the greatest form of football, period. It's got everything; the constant movement of soccer, the high-flying action of NFL, and the big, and unprotected hits of rugby. From the USA, with love, GO PIES!!!!

It’s easier than it used to be. You can see them in Australia through the official AFL website but I’m not sure if you can do so in the USA. Give it a go, you never know. In the absence of that, you can always get the highlights on the AFL’s official KZfaq channel, the teams’ KZfaq channels, and definitely the Grand Finals, and some of the old games for free.

sliat1981 time outs happen when the ball goes out bounds. It’s essential for the game, it wouldn’t work without an out of bounds.

I use to love watching Teddy Whitten ‘Ham it up’ during interstate competition. Love his ‘antics’ or hate them, he was great for footy and the competition. Ted would of been a great Character Actor in another life. RIP ‘MR Football’. I also watched Royce Hart dismantle a Western Australian backline at the MCG while playing for Victoria (Yes it was permitted back then), simply amazing display of natural ability and skill.

1:21:10 Iconic photo of Michael Tuck consoling Robbie Flower who was playing in his first and only finals series after being an all time great for Melbourne on the wing throughout his career. He retired after this before the Dees made the grand final in 1988. Tuck was through to his 8th grand final and 5th in a row. He eventually played in 11 for 7 premierships, both VFL/AFL records. Joel Selwood has played in 5 grand finals for 3 wins to put that in perspective.

They gloss quickly over Barassi’s career at Melbourne and focus on his time at Carlton. He was at Melbourne for 12 years. He was at Carlton at for 3 and stunk as a player there. How come they don’t mention Jezza’s time at St Kilda?
@ChannelBlaino

Probably cause Barassi at his time at Carlton changed the way the game was played,while Jezza did not at St Kilda.

Because Barassi’s move to Carlton was seismic. The Blues hadn’t won a flag since ‘47 and Barassi’s arrival started a run of sustained success the Club hadn’t experienced before or since. Meanwhile, Melbourne haven’t won a premiership since Ron’s departure. Seismic.

sliat1981 if you don’t understand why the biggest name in the game leaving a club he had such strong personal ties to, then the context of what came next for the club he joined and the one he left is worth covering I can’t explain it to you. Melbourne didn’t even make the finals for 23 years after he left... he was groomed as the next in line, the one to keep the demons dynasty rolling. It’s still to this day one of the biggest player movements in the history of the game

Australian footy is the second oldest homegown code rugby is the oldest 1908 was when the nswfrl formed. Before 1908 aussie rules was Victoria,SA,WA and Tas, there was no aussie rules in nsw and Queensland or not requnised. remember footy up is rugby. the first comp was the challenge cup which was the first semi professional comp in 1864. then the vfa from 1877 which the first organised comp which finished 1999, 1995 it became the vfa trading as the vsfl. Als even if the clubs didn't go bankrupt the vfl always would have become the afl

21:33 Melbourne thug #14 directly causes Peter Hudson's career-wrecking injury. Easy and clear mark to Hudson on the lead before this guy comes in late and takes out his frustration by trying to knock his head off. Probably didn't even get reported for that in those days. 3 or 4 weeks these days, unless you're Patrick Dangerfield then it's all good.

Suggest you have a look at some of lethal Leigh’s finest work before you sook up about anyone else. The only man in history to be charged with criminal assault for his on field conduct at the top level. Also was found guilty of charges. The only real shock here was it only happened once. To his credit he never spooked up unlike you.
