Thank you... For over 40 years until the late 80s my father, who passed in 1993, was a builder of custom homes and smaller commercial buildings. Sometimes he had crews and subcontractors and sometimes it was just him and a helper or two. Watching how hard the two of you work at building your home essentially all by yourselves gives me a whole new world of appreciation for all of my father's hard work. You should be so proud of yourselves every day, the days you feel major accomplishments and the days you feel as if you slipped backwards. Be proud of yourselves not just for your accomplishments of building your debt free home but also be proud of yourselves for the wonderful gift you are giving to others through your sharing. Thank you for giving this 59 year old woman an even greater appreciation for my father.

Hello from Alaska. I am sitting here on my lunch and had just watched the last unseen video...all bummed out. And then, THERE WAS A NEW ONE!! Woohoo! I can't believe you do a video a day but am very grateful. I'm sure many of us would still be just as loyal if it was only 3 or 4 a week. I know I will be! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

When I pour concrete I try to build an extra form or two if I can to use up extra concrete. Sometimes it a segment of sidewalk or a base for the garbage cans. Anything will work just as long as I don't waste the extra cement.

You guys rock!! Oh, The Lawn Care Nut... Those elephant patties make outstanding stepping stones if turned over (round side down) and dug in a uniform height. I know folks that spend a bunch of money to either buy similar concrete pads or dig shallow holes and pour their own. Also, really great pads for outdoor structures like lawn mower/tool sheds, etc.

I'm interested to see this video where they explain how it's preferable to pour the floor in a second stage. In Australia we would've just poured the entire slab first. Then hired removable steel scoffolding for a few days, put the icf walls up then poured the walls and removed the scaffolding. Seems a lot neater that way, and probably cheaper.
@Bobg425
@Bobg425 6 жыл бұрын
I dont know why they didnt pour a monfoundation first,the external footings were only a foot deep,way easier,quicker,safer.I think he did say why not in a past video but makes no sense to me.

Lumber = shelving in the garage (you know: for all your canning stuff). Perhaps a good workbench, too. And: for the garden: raised beds! You will love them! Make them about 4-5ft across, so you can reach the middle without stepping in - if you don't walk in the beds, the soil won't get compacted - and 2-3 boards high. Keep hydrated!

I've got a bone to pick with all you Yahoos who can't figure out why Alyssa is getting so many compliments. She is using tools and materials engineered for the hand size, arm length and general strength of the average man and she is doing so quite well without complaint. I am the mom of four sons with a dad in the Army and gone from home often. I taught my boys how to repair their cars, rebuild a dead lawn mower and salvage that home appliance one more time. When I have more time I will tell you a horror store about a torque wrench, but in the mean time just know that Alyssa deserves every "atta girl" she gets!

Could I offer a tip? You know those pouches builders use to carry many more nail/screws with them than they can carry in their hands so they don't need to go back to get more so often? They're also very useful when you take a lot of nails/screws out so you don't have to go put them down or drop as many. 😉

I just looked up a dimple membrane install using a nail-gun to secure in-place, and you're right -the dimples are outward. Truly explains why it would be difficult to glue -also as previously mentioned, using nails with the rubber dome sealers would reduced the risk of leakage.
@mitchelldalton7405
@mitchelldalton7405 6 жыл бұрын
Rodrigo Rogereo yea, my bad, the stuff I used didn't have fabric and was just dimples, and the dimples go inward against the water proofing to provide a gap for static water to trickle down into the weeping tile. Not sure which one is best? But their builds looking good, Great Job Guys!
@MadnomadM
@MadnomadM 6 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Dalton no the felt stays on the outside to prevent sediment from getting in. But they were supposed to install those horizontally because there are smaller and larger sized dimples on the sheets, and put adhesive on both the back of the dimpled membrane and on the wall, then let it set up a bit before applying to the wall.
@TaosStove
@TaosStove 6 жыл бұрын
They put it on the correct way. The felt keeps the fill of dimples,so water has a place to run down. If done felt in it would be worthless. having 45 years in construction, you learn a little something. That is why there are professional carpenters in this world. who learned the trade on the job and not watching This Old House on weekends.

Great work !! When doing demo, tear down, electrical, plumbing or any other type of work where you are discarding something onto the floor put it in a trash can. Get into the habit of dragging a trash can with you when practical and clean as you go especially when working with a limited crew. It took a minute but I have my plumbers and electricians convinced it is faster and more efficient to clean as you go BUT more importantly it is SAFER. When you are done with the job you are DONE no major clean up needed. Just a little advise from an old guy.

Good looking job, glad to see it open up! Use the scaffold lumber for toe boards on the roof, exterior wall scaffolding and interior framing....and then finally for garage/shop shelving and extra sheds/buildings on your property.
