As an AC Milan fan I do not understand how Tomori was dropped from the team. He won the scudetto, he was one of the best defenders i the Serie A last season, imo he’s te the best English centre back… I think that he didn’t make the team because he doesn’t play in the PL, if he played in Man City he would have been the first choice

Tomori is a modern defender; physical, rapid, aggressive & with a decent touch. Allows the midfield to play further up the pitch cos with his pace he can cover greater ground behind. Top 3 defenders in Serie A, league winner, solid champions league experience and strong consistent performances... outrageous

Kalvin Philips and Tomori are outrageous but at least Madison is a big positive, maybe should even be a starter if mount doesnt perform in the early group stage

I was pleasantly surprised with the squad selection, it's much better thought out than people give it credit for. Defenders: He's clearly gone for experience where we lack in quality, not a bad idea when you only play 7 games. There's some new options but we don't have time to get them up to speed and we can't throw them in the deep end. Midfield: Maddison deserves the call up. Gallagher had a few scratching their heads, but it makes sense. He's likely a replacement for Bellingham and Mount as a sub or for Injuries and fits the team Southgate will play better. JWP although a great player doesn't really add anything. Everyone in the team is a good passer of the ball. Set pieces can be taken by either Trippier or TAA who will be on the pitch. Strikers: Wilson is a better fit than Toney and Abraham to play if Kane isn't available or if he can be rested. I like Toney but he doesn't marry up the system like Wilson who is also in good form and spirit.

So good for Gallagher and great pick for Southgate. JWP is better player at this stage, but he doesn't provide anything that England doesn't already have. Set pieces TAA, Trippier, Mount, Foden, Maddison. You need Gallagher cos he has the dog in him that will fight until the end and run all day, so versatile. Phillips had to be in there cos there's nobody else that can cover Rice if he gets injured.

From my perspective, I think Gallagher got selected is taking the advantage of chilwell’s injured, Southgate only taken one proper LB Luke Shaw, JWP needs to completes with Bellingham, Henderson, Rice even Phillips, he is a No . 6 , Southampton is currently at the relegation zone , and JWP isn’t performing outstanding like Maddison, who basically playing himself into the squad, but Gallagher is very versatile to covers positions like No 6, No 8 and No 10 at any formations and for any kind of tactical reason off the ball , he is one of the future for the team , probably just going to get involvement and experience.
