Another one of your 0.1% here. (And I'm a native Japanese.) Too shame Akihabara is no longer very much an electric town -- You need to go onto backstreets or under train tracks to find full bridge rectifiers.

I refuse to believe that you are such a down to earth youtuber, simply not possible. South Africa pro tip: Bring everything. In Japan I bought a narrow little three-way adapter that would allow me to plug in my three-prong cords and just let the ground prong hang out in the wind. It was either that or cut off the ground prong.

If you go back you should look at the legacy mains system in rural towns. Some stuff looks straight out of 1960's USA infrastructure with a bit of clever innovation. It blew up my phone's power supply though.

100VAC 50Hz in East Japan. 100VAC 60Hz in West Japan.
