I have stopped buying can dog food. I purchased bags of chicken at WalMart cheaper. So I cook chicken and rice for my dogs. 10 lbs of chicken is $5.72, 13oz can of dog food is over a dollar.

How much was your solar system? from start to finish, for someone who knows nothing about solar. It's helpful to know so if we think it's worth it. I did quick math... say spend 15K USD on it and say you live there for five years 15K USD = 882K Peso / 60 months = 14K peso per month then 10 years, half that and so on. Also buy a lot build a house how much was that? then do the same math...Or leave the 100K in the high interest-bearing account. But then you pay rent... hmmm Thanks

rents keep going up about 5-7 % every year , for me i have never rented i like the (not payment ) for the long run,, my total cost for the lot , solar, home , pool , motor bike , was just under 80k ( i payed cash for all ) so now me and the wifey can just sit back and relax without a worry and only have the basic small bills to take care of

If you invest 40 to 80 thousand dollars to buy your own home, then that is less than you will have for travel and such in your retirement . Let's say the average rental is 500 a month, so that works out to 6k a year. In 5 years, it's 30k and 60k in ten years. Now keep in mind that the philippines is prone to natural disasters like earthquakes and typhoons that can wipe you out overnight. The philippines is also a developing country and can be prone to civil unrest or policy changes that can affect you negatively and could force you out of the philippines. Ownership benefits her more than you, and if she has a bad day, then you could end up out on your ass and have very little recourse. The cons outweigh the pros for me, but everyone is different, and every situation is different depending upon the people involved. Keeping the family at a distance and out of your personal business is the best way to have a happy life as many families will put pressure on your wife to get into your pockets so lots of communication and doing your homework is a good way to keep things together. Note : Don't overbuild and keep things cozy because not only is it cheaper to cool and maintain, but it keeps the squatters out of your life.

OMG - man - you have a small army your supporting ? --- I'm alone & a retired old fart seeking a small studio - easy to clean & cheap to cool ! --- Steve on the Philippine Info Channel can get me a $60 rental that I can fix up however I wish for less than about $1500 (USD) and just ''make it mine'' on a long term lease.... They will need flush toilets hot water paint and ac added. A 24 - 7 AC use / elect bill will run about another $80. - - - These expats near him in that area live a comfortable life for about $800 -- $900 in recurring expenses - alone - don't drink or smoke and own their motorbikes. An average SS check is $1800 - leaving a nice bit of savings - every month ! + Travel when they feel like it wherever they wish to go - all over S E Asia. --?--
