Most people think they are crazy because misconceptions. You don't need to prep with guns and ammo or for the end of the world. A good prepared person will have Water and food for a month a good first aid kit and some other stuff like a cooking device if there's no power. Most people prep for large storms or if they see a trend of prices going up you might buy a few more of that item than normal.

Fully equipped and ready to go. 5.5x10. I bought it new 7 years ago. It's never been outside since I bought it. 2 spares. You name it I bought it. Hope we never have to leave the house. So true! My family thinks I prep out of fear, and therefore joke about me, but they do not understand that I do not fear anything. I just think its prudent to be prepared for anything, especially considering the unprecedented levels of sociopolitical issues, earthquakes, floods, gsm/solar activity... It just makes sense to respond appropriately to changes in ones environment. For me, prepping is an act of Love, not fear. Love for myself, my family, even my foolish unprepared neighbors. Love is Action.

Nice stockpile! I have one tip for you. I’ve heard this several times, and I work at a grocery store. You must keep bottled water off of the concrete floor. It was hard to tell from the angle, if they had something underneath them. The concrete will contaminate the water. It’s like same reason you can’t leave bottle water in a hot car or space, it will also contaminate the water.
@TheCookFamilyHomestead
@TheCookFamilyHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! The water in the video is actually water we use a lot of. It will be used quickly. We have hard water here so we drink a lot of bottled water. But you are right....concrete isn't good for long term storage of water!

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but in my experience it's best to take the rings off of the canning jars before storing them. Any little bits of moisture or food under the ring will rot and rust them, making them difficult to get off and often destroying them. Even without the ring, the lids aren't going to pop off unless they didn't seal properly, in which case it's better to know sooner rather than later. Gorgeous stockpile!!
@pennylaur7687
@pennylaur7687 7 ай бұрын
Leaving rings on is a no no. If a lid unseals the lid can hold it in place, this giving the jar a ,false, seal. That food will not be safe.

NO! Now that the prices have gone up to $1.25, at Dollar Tree, it’s expensive for many things. Today, canned corn at Walmart was 54 cents a can. They are $1.25 at Dollar Tree. Rice is expensive there. Pasta is higher than Walmart. Start using your phone to compare prices. You could be paying WAY MORE! Bath gel, shampoo, bandaids are priced better than Walmart.

I love my food pantry/storage. I put a basket on my arm and go shopping in my basement and pantry. Write what I take on a list, then go shopping to replace it. Twice a month I go to the grocery store and 80% of it goes straight to the storage and the back of the shelf so oldest is at the front to be chosen on the next foray to stock up the kitchen. If you keep a menu list it's easy to see what to bring up and what to replace, and you always have a good idea what's going to be for supper and you know what meats to take out of the freezer for today or tomorrow. Hint; keep heavy stuff like canning pots on the bottom and light stuff like paper towels on the top. That way, if you're in your basement for a tornado possible things falling will be light. who wants to get hit in the head by a bread machine!

I’m a college student living in a townhouse with 3 other people. While our budgets are tight and we only have a small amount of space I ALWAYS make sure we are stocked up on pantry staples and our fridge and freezer is full. Because we make not starving a priority we could easily go 4 months before running out of food. So in my opinion, space and a low food budget is not an excuse to be unprepared...

Tip: Keep a list on the freezer of running inventory of each shelf with dates, I highlight things I want used up and cross those off as I do, it’s easy to forget about things or leave them buried till their not the best quality anymore. For things on the shelfs I use a black sharpie to mark best by date. It just makes it easier to quickly see what is getting close and of coarse put the newest purchases in back.

Great video. Might I also suggest somethings we recently purchased for our prepper pantry, an adjustable cane and adjustable crutches. If someone has some type of leg/knee/foot injury they might come in handy. Also a good thing to have would be Oil lamps, and a few bottles of lamp oil. If the lights go out you don’t have to waste your batteries right away you can use the lamps instead and stretch your batteries out longer. Hello from Rock Spring, Georgia, USA

Very wise young man! Thank you for the tour. We are slightly prepared because of the habit of farming and canning. It used to be the mind-set of everyone we knew: "have a year's worth of everything plus a little, just in case some crop fails." Now, not so efficient, but we are trying. You have encouraged us to try harder. :)

Glad to see you have a good system for rotating your stock of surplus supplies. Those supplies wouldn’t be worth much of they were too old and had gone bad. Also smart to stick to the items you regularly use and actually like. Don’t understand why people will stock up on food they don’t like eating. It will either go bad or probably never be consumed.

You should stock up on reusable lids this year! Tattler or harvest guard so you can continue to do canning in the future. We bought a grain mill last year and wheat too. So handy. We have about as much stuff as you. My husband is rebuilding the shelves in my bathroom to make them 2 feet instead of 12 inches that came with the house. So I’ll have tons more space soon and will buy more shampoo. I have a lot of bar soaps and hand wash. I have a huge pantry it’s basically a small room off my kitchen and we’ve been rebuilding the shelves in there too. I still wish I had a basement storage though. Can’t ever have enough storage space for us “preppers” also I’m a mineral analysis practitioner your migraines are likely low potassium! Magnesium too but magnesium lowers sodium and potassium so start with potassium let me know if you want more help also blood work isn’t an accurate representation of what is getting inside of a cell and I’ve only seen a few people with adequate potassium and it’s because they’ve been working on it a few years.

I have three and one thing I'm thinking of is clothing. I'm trying to get clothes and footwear in the next sizes they will need, including cold weather gear here. Gender neutral clothing might be something to consider for hand me downs and trade but I'm just starting with the next size up for a of them, I can sew so I can alter larger clothes to fit but it's much easier to buy them now.

@@distressindamsel I have veen collecting things too. We have a local thrift store that does 50% off every wed so ive been trying to add things in that way. And my family all sorta passes clothing around lol. But gender neutral is a really great point. My biggest thing currently is the shoes. I have a ton of clothing and I can sew things too but shoes are the kicker. Luckily my two youngest ones are about the same size so that makes it nice too. My oldest is the same size as me. My son is the only one I dont have as much wiggle room for. But my cousin has a boy who passes things down.

Box grains, get out of box, bugs can eat thru, get in glass jars,dry seal them. Don't store all food 1 place in home. I have jars of rice and beans in my cabinets in very back with pans in front.
