John Wesley Harding Album - after Dylan goes electric, has near death motorcycle accident, goes into 1 year and a half seclusion then JWH is released in Dec. 1967. Dylan changes his style again and it will lead to a "Country Rock'' sound which helps influence that future genre .... The Eagles , Neil Young, America , Early Elton John , James Taylor etc....

Awesome list guys. I really enjoyed this and between you, I felt myself agreeing a lot. As younger Bob Dylan fans, we probably hear certain things with slightly different ears, ie the country/Woodstock period. I'm doing a Dylan series now on my channel hence why this probs popped up - great work 😎

I really enjoyed this. Especially from 2 people who discovered Dylan in the 80s/90s. It's hard to even boil down to a top 10...so many of his albums are masterpieces. But I liked that you included New Morning which is so beautiful just to listen to....like going to a gospel church to me. I had forgotten how much I loved that album till you reminded me. And though I also love John Wesley Harding and Slow Train Coming, I know that they're not for everyone. I suppose that Blonde on Blonde is my number one but isn't it great to have an artist that you can have so many choices - such a lifetime of excellent work. Thanks for this.

Nicely done lads..... Sorry l missed your video first time around. Going back to the '70s it was not uncommon to find Dylan fanatics who possessed all of his LP's and cassette tapes of the many Dylan covers out there as well. One you mentioned in your review from B I A B H. was" It's all over now Baby B. and a cover version by Van Morrison when he fronted the band THEM. Check it out if you get a chance. Like it as much as Bob's original. Cheers!

Hi boys loved your choices and your reasons for them. I think Highway 61 is very good, rocking yeh. Also love Blonde on Blonde, rocking too( but drugged out and wild). My favourite is John Wesley Harding, it's a folky bluesy record with some beautiful tracks telling a kind of story of a spiritual nature, with a good backing band. It's post his motorcycle crash and it's pre-Nashville Skyline and pre-Christian, but almost leading onto these phases. The whole weirded-out nature of the cover and the atmosphere. I think it's good to have innocent naivety in your choice of records. Nobody's too clever, nobody's too slick, we can all join in.

Hey young men, I enjoyed watching your Dylan top 10. I do however take exception to your take on the Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan's version on Girl From the North Country. There is a reason the song is sequenced first on the album. In the 60's when Columbia wanted to cut Dylan from its label Cash went to bat for him. At that time Cash was the bigger artist on the label. There very well have been no Nashville Skyline without Johnny Cash. Please check out the grammy winning liner notes provided by Mr. Cash on Nashville Skyline!. Yeah I guess they are just popping G chords and singing. It's ragged but its right! In fact as an old man who has listened to both artists since he wore short pants and flip flops I find some of the songs on Nashville Skyline pretty cheesy. "Peggy Day for example is not top notch. Clever? Maybe, but not top notch Dylan. No the Dylan/Cash version of Girl From the North Country is why the album makes my top 10. That and of course Lay Lady Lay and Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You. Best Regards.

The three best Dylan's albums are highway 61, blood on the tracks and blonde on blonde. Period. Musically and lyrically are far beyond his other masterpieces. Which one anyone should choose depends on the mood of that moment. As for me ,for the time being ,my ranking is 1. Blood on the tracks 2. Highway 61. 3. Blonde on blonde. Nice video. Congratulations

Great video, Have you listened to any of Bob's work in the 2000s and beyond. I recommend Modern Times, the most one of his indisputable masterpieces for me. Love and Theft, and Tempest are also very solid records as well. very much looking forward to His upcoming album in June Rough and Rowdy Ways, this is the first Dylan album of new material that I'll be hearing after becoming a fan 2 years ago! It would be awesome if you guys did a review on that album.

I grew up a Dylan fan, became an even bigger admirer of Dylan's genius as I grew older, but drifted away in the 70's as Dylan became religious. Then I was told about the "Underground" set? I'm sorry, but I don't have my collection here to confirm, but it had 3 records or cd's and one of those 3 became my #1 album because it has so many songs that speak to me, and many I find hypnotic or mesmerizing. I've since found my spiritual side so I can now appreciate many of Dylan's songs I had previously missed or disregarded. Every Grain of Sand is one of my favorite all time songs now. Another I would mention, and maybe someone else will help fill in some holes, is Angelina, which I have never seen on any other album and Angelina is my favorite love song by Dylan. I enjoyed your take, and agree with most of the top ten in one order or another. However, Highway 61 Revisited has got to be his all time best, eh?

I leared everything from Dylan back in the 60s. He was my formstive educator. I stopped in the early 70s. My sis was employed by Sony music and sent me Time and Bootleg. I was blown away with Time. First intense listening of Dylan since the late 60s for me. I never got to Blood and such. I heard plenty of the tracks but never with the same commitment. Time was non stop for at least a year. The Bootleg was great too

I think these lists shows what millennials think in comparison with previous generations, particularly the one that grew up with Dylan. The impact Dylan made with his 60's albums plus Blood on the Tracks overshadows everything he did later, though anything Dylan does is either the best or the highest level and everything is interesting and has something intellectual or beautiful for everyone.

Blonde on Blonde is my favorite. I think he hits a sound that has a bit of ting and warmth at the same time which makes it just the best sounding dylan album for me. Every song works so well for me and I think blonde on blonde has the most beauty mixed with the rock that he had the previous two albums. It will always be arguably my favorite album ever

John Wesley Harding was the first Dylan album I got into so this may be slightly biased. I think it’s beauty is in its simplicity, the sparse instrumentation makes gives the vocals and harmonica more presence. In my opinion all of the melodies are work well with their lyrics and the lyrics themselves are unique for Dylan but still full of great imagery and emotion, just put in a bit of a cryptic way sometimes.

I respect the comments below properly crediting the majesty of the Street Legal LP. For me, it's third only to Blonde On Blonde and Blood On The Tracks. I feel that only Bob Dylan could pull off delivery of the line in "No Time To Think" whereby even the song lyrics read: "I've seen all these decoys through a set of deep turquoise eyes And I feel so depressed." - But listen to it again: "eyes" is in the next sentence (in the song). NOT in the same one as the same one shown here. So cool. It's no wonder that man won a Nobel Prize.

It's really tough to narrow it down to Dylan's top 10. However, for me...I'll just make a quick try at it, right off the cuff here, and not in any particular ranking order.... Blood on the Tracks Bringing It All Back Home Blonde on Blonde Freewheelin' Street Legal Rough and Rowdy Ways Tempest Highway 61 Revisited John Wesley Harding Modern Times And then there are a whole bunch more just nipping at the heels of those ones. Like I said, picking just the "10 best" is very hard to do. If I had to pick Number 1, it would be either Blood on the Tracks or Bringing it all Back Home, depending on which day I was listening. I like the acoustic or the electric approaches equally well....no reason to favor one over the other that I can see. He started out in folk, and the standard way that was being done at the time (the early 60's) was a very simple acoustic approach, as on his first 4 albums....that was what folksingers did! And it was great. Very intimate and communicative in every way, just like in the coffeehouse setting. Then he brought in the electric music, and that was a shock to a lot of his diehard folk fans, but it produced some of the most amazing songs ever recorded and changed everything. I love ALL of it.

“Highway Sixty-One Revisited:” Number One!!! Why? From the opening challenger of “like a Rolling Stone” through our lost journey down “Desolation Row,” what else could it be? For me, the tie-breaker is the title track. Because like Mr. Zimmerman, I was born on US Highway Sixty-One, albeit it ten years later and a thousand miles south in Sikeston Missouri. Approximately seven- and one-half years ago, a local Marin County weekly asked for readers to write in and explain the “what and why” of their favorite album. Great! I knew which one I would submit. In fact, I wrote a poem about it: Thus, my submission My Favorite Album: "Highway Sixty-One Revisited", Bob Dylan, The Village Elliott: 10/13 "Mediocre poets 'borrow,.' Great poets 'steal." TS Eliot. Reckon once everything’s said and done, My fav’rite album ever heard spun--- For great affinity ‘tween title and me -- Is Bob Dylan’s “Highway Sixty-One…” Down “Blues Highway” ma “showed me,” first son, Born in Sikeston, Mo, March, Fifty-One. Up north, older Bro-Yid Ten years later he did what no one before ever had done. Bob revisits our childhoods’ abode, Addressed: “Big Muddy's Great River Road,” Mine: St. Lou, He's in Minn,. Like Mark Twain and Huck Finn We skedaddled from home once full-growed.. Was bar mitzvahed, then next year first heard His new sound dubbed by his folk fans ,“Absurd!” I thought ”I'm satisfied God’s is on either Side,” In Bob’s electric, poetic word. “Like a Rolling Stone’s’” issued the call, From first note, message challenged us all. Greatest song of my time both for rhythm and rhyme. Love the title tract, all songs stand tall. Before I was dubbed “the Village Elliott,” I wrote poetry under the pseudonym of T S Elliott, my nickname on our local Stinson Beach softball team, Team Stinson. I felt entitled to steal it from Thomas Stern. Besides sharing a name, we are both raised in St. Louis, Mo. And I am a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. Founded by TS’s grandfather shortly before the Civil War, the Eliot family is still prominent on campus. TS’s cousin, TC was University Chancellor when I was a student in the late 1960’s-early seventies.

There are three “quintessential” Dylan: 1. quintessential Dylan, the two bookends, Freewheeling and Times; 2. quintessential nasty sarcasm in My Back Pages; and 3. Quintessential poetry in Sad Eyed Lady. I bought Freewheeling in 1964-65 and the rejection of his support for black people that I interpret in My Back Pages hurt; pity, because other songs on Highway 61, especially Tom Thumb, are great.
