Some very evocative images of times gone, but still memorable. I first visited Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1972 and have returned almost every year since, sometimes 3 or 4 times in a year. Studying the slate industry and it's ups and downs (unfortunately, the downs are longer and more severe than the ups) is a lifelong interest and I will continue to return to this wonderful town as long as there is breath in me.

A brilliant video, thanks. What perplexes me is that towns have always come and gone, but what is replacing them now? Generations shopping on the internet, playing computer games, and just not going out apart from to get bladdered. And the jobs have gone to other countries or to home working. Sad sad.

That sure was a trip down memory lane. I was last in Blaenau in 2018, when I went over to visit my mum. A lot of familiar faces some no longer with us. Thanks for posting.😊

For a moment I thought she'd been to Wales. (I was wondering how I missed that.) Stunning voice.

I think my Aunt Margaret Guest worked there. She went on to become the local JP.

This popped up in my recommendations. Great song... and strange coincidence, my favourite novelist is John Cowper Powys who lived and died in Blaenau Ffestiniog!

He was also lived in Corwen and was fascinated by Welsh history and Myth, I think two of his novels include Owain Glyndwr. I was at the Owain Glyndwr festival this month where there is a statue of him. I filmed this and it can be seen on my site. Glad you like Iris Dement.

A bit more than strange coincidence. If you try to understand, you kill the magic. Roll with it.

Unfortunately not, like many things in the town.

Checked it out on Google Earth. Nice town except for the quarries. What is the main industry there now?
@terryfawr Жыл бұрын
Without the quarries, there wouldn't be a town there.

@@terryfawrIs that an insinuation about the Welsh?
@terryfawr Жыл бұрын
@@mughug9616 No, its an insinuation about the fact that scenery dose not put food on the table or pay for your mortgage. What the place needs is proper work, with a good wages. Not catering to excessive tourism on low wages.
