I went to live in Macclesfield at the age of six when my dad took the management of the Ye Old Wine Vaults on the corner of Castle Street, my brothers and I went to Park Royal Secondary school, we use to run from the pub to Sparrow Park behind the church to see the steam trains passing through Central Station onto Hibel Road Station at what seemed 100 mph, I rememberone day walking to Tytherington Hall which was empty and climbing through a window and looking at all the pictures and cartoons the American soldiers had sketched on the walls. I have a silk handkerchief never used, they were given to some of the children of Macclesfield for the Queen's coronation in 1953. We left Macclesfield when I was 14 I am now 84 and often reminis of those days long ago.

Thanks for the tour Alan. I really enjoyed it. I was a Londoner and in 1960 (age 13) my Mum dragged me, protesting, up to Macclesfield to stay with an old wartime friend. I hated every moment of it. In 2000, my eldest daughter who is a scientist, got a job with AstraZeneca and moved to Macc. My youngest daughter went up to visit her, met a fella and also ended up in Macc! For years my wife and I travelled up to Macc and it felt like a second home. We thought of buying a flat there and looked at one in the barracks you showed. My eldest daughter moved back to Cambridge with AZ, but my youngest still lives in Tytherington. Until recently we went up frequently and as I runner I enjoyed running with my daughter in the beautiful countryside and have made a few videos of the runs ( the most recent was last year). My grandson (aged 9) did train for a while at the MFC Academy. Thanks again, you have a town to be proud of my friend.

I was born and grew up in Macc. I left for the US in 1987, when I was in my early twenties. I really enjoyed this little tour, I'm glad you described places, it helped to jog my memory, so nostalgic. Thank you!

I like Macc, everyone's mad and it's not as aggressive as it used to be.

You don't mention the several parks in and around the town or the Macclesfield Museum in West Park and famous glacial boulder in the park. But on the whole it was a reasonable coverage of Macclesfield.

I moved away from Macclesfield at the age of ten so it was interesting seeing what it was like. I still remember buying football stickers from a stall at the indoor market

I moved to nz from here when I was 12, nice to see they actually have pride flags up :) Also, theyre's a guy who runs a pastry stand in the town square in front or Nero's on the sundays and he always has really good sausage rolls- also also, if you look on the roof above the 3 store, there's a stone owl statue!

I'm thinking about moving from London to Macclesfield to be close to work and it's way cheaper than London. I'm Afro Caribbean, are there any black people in Macclesfield? I know it's a strange question
@alanstravel Жыл бұрын
Yes there are in fact I used to give a lift to a lovely black lady my wife worked with. I hope you make the move we are a friendly lot here .
