I turned 40 and this was my dream trick when i used to ride. Its so strange because i haven't been on my bike in years but last night i was dreaming i doing tailwips to manual. I don't even look up bmx anymore but when going into KZfaq today this was the first video i seen. How weird is that.

I'm almost 40 too and I still ride when I can but it's difficult w/ a special needs child, I can't risk being injured for weeks so I can't go as hard as I'd like to.... Plus being 40 sucks when you go to ride you HAVE to stretch and warm up or you'll pull a muscle or something stupid, I went riding a couple of months ago and pulled a muscle in my butt cheek doing footjam variations. LoL 😩

Smart move using the old substitute teacher teach us how to whip...very smart of you guys! Probably one of the best How Tos for Whips honestly. Anyone struggling with whips, just listen closely and follow his steps

You should try doing group how to’s with the guys speaking to their varied techniques and adding things to what each of the others are saying.

Great video with some new info for me! I've been working on tailwhips for 2 years now. i ride with right foot forward, kick the whips to the left. i can catch front foot consistently but been really struggling with the back foot. I can't seem to find anything except the ground with it. Want this trick before i turn 40. any advice would be awesome!

I just turned 45 (4/23/23) and just got a bike to get back into bmx. I rode back in the early 90’s and got to see Joe Johnson, the father of the tailwhip air, do them in “real life” shortly after he started doing them. Saw Matt Hoffman doing backflips right after he started doing them. Shit, that was back in ‘91 and I was like 12 or 13 😬. I stopped biking and stuck with skateboarding and surfing. 30+ years later I’m still skating but not surfing as much. Long story short, the tailwhip air has always been one of my fantasy tricks and when I did ride I was young and not as strong as I am now and bikes are way lighter today. My goal is to get a tailwhip within 5 months or at least before I die….🙏🏼

My problem is I just never had the hops for it. I heard shorter crank arms are the secret back in the day but no idea if its true.
