What about waterproofing around those mixer valves? didn’t look like they removed those protective covers to seal around the valve

Hot wire can be installed in wet areas if it’s leveler into the sub floor. Don’t know if old ways it couldn’t but my installer recommended by Hotwire said it’s now done in the shower so it keeps the floor warm under foot

I have subway tiles in a few properties in the showers, biggest pain ever when it comes to re-grouting...

Hi, why is the sheeting different colours , is it cemment sheeting on wet areas and aquacheck for other areas?

I am pulling out the plaster in the bathroom. The ceiling plaster is in good condition. Do I save any money by cutting off the wall sheets at the bottom of the cornice or does this just create a difficult joint for the plasterer?

G'day James, did you get this waterproofing done under the screed? I thought waterproofing on top of the screed was more common these days?

yes one is cheaper and no way near as good as cement sheet ,the cheaper one is just aqua check turns to mud when it gets wet.

Hi James I just laid the secure flooring in my bathroom I was told I didn’t need to lay a 40mm screed is the right or should I lay a screed. Cheers

Hi Nicholas, generally you will need fall to your floor wastes, so unless the new floor has fall to drains built in you may need a screed.

Hey Scott, it's usually called a P50 shadow trim and the brand we used was called Trimtex.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think in Qld the regs are that you don't need to get waterproofing inspected by council/certifier unless you're changing the plumbing??? I'll have to ring the council... I was planning to remove a bath and put a shower pan in its place and cap of the old shower pipes. Do you reckon that warrants what the council would consider "changing" the plumbing, given that I'm not planning to add new pipes, just extend the bath pipe up to shower height? Also, What do you think about shark bite fittings?? Have you had any experience with those??

Hey Steve, thanks for the question. No you generally don't need an inspection unless the work is part of an overall DA approved project i.e usually done in conjunction with other major renovations. For a small DIY bathroom renovation no inspection should be required if you are replacing like for like and giving the room an update.

Hey James. Can you order custom length strip drains from Bunnings or is it a specialty thing? Where did you buy yours from? Also what size subway tiles did you install. The colours you've gone with are ace.

Thanks Mate! im not sure if you can get custom made ones from bunnings might be worth checking at the special orders desk . i ordered mine through a company called Storm Tec www.stormtech.com.au/ generally you can order the storm tec drains to any size, length, debth etc, and they usally stock through local plumbing stores. Good luck with it.

Thanks James. In NSW I believe that waterproofing has to be done by a certified tradesman. I'd like to do it myself.....do you know what courses are necessary to become licensed> Thanks Rick

Hi Richard, I believe the HIA and the Master Builders Association run a short 1 day course to obtain licencing for waterproofing. Best give those guys a call and double check as the requirements may have changed. Let me know how you get on.
