Referring to your comment on "Jaws", I hope you realise that Spielberg stole Ray's script about an alien landing in rural bengal titled "The Alien" and turned it into two films: First encounters and ET. Due to his age and heart condition and the amount of running around that would be involved if he sued Spielberg, Arthur C. Clarke advised Ray not to pursue legal recourse. Which is what he did. Spielberg tried to atone by pressing for a "Lifetime Achievement Academy" for Ray, but that's not nearly enough, I believe.
@amithu5
@amithu5 Жыл бұрын
Well, it is difficult to infer, if Spielberg “stole” the script of “The Alien”. One thing is for sure is the obvious similarities between “The Alien” and “ET”, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Spielberg stole it. At that time the Script of “The Alien” was available in European market and fell into the Spielberg’s screenwriter. As for Spielberg pressing for Ray’s lifetime achievement academy award, it was mot true. It was Martin Scorsese who had pushed ahead with his support of Ray’s lifetime achievement Academy awards. Spielberg has always avoided talking about Ray, whereas Scorsese, Wes Anderson and a few others drive have talked about his greatness.

In case you are not aware, before Spielberg made ET, Satyajit wrote a story on which a script was written long before ET was made and then he sent it to Columbia pictures to get the funding and technical support to make the film. But he nnever heard from them. Long after Spielberg made the film almost on the same line changing bit to suit American line of thought and never mentioned Ray. No acknowledgment. Ray told in an French interview. It is on youtube. Do watch

Listen to Ambedkar, Nehru and other leaders in politics, religion, etc and you'll see the same trend! Sometimes my grandparent's english astonishes me as classier than the trash we speak today. Lol

This man belongs to that incredible pantheon of Bengali icons, e.g. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Rabindra Nath Tagore et al., which Bengal has failed to produce for many decades now. There has been a conspicuous decline in Bengali intelligentsia. Sometimes it is difficult to believe that they were real.
@S.Ghosh_221
@S.Ghosh_221 2 жыл бұрын
Bengalies are busy proving their citizenship and patriotism for a country that deliberately picks out on them , seeking validation from people that have since decades looked down on them, sabotaged them, humiliated, belittled and still do it even today.. Mere lip service of "we respect bengalies" mean nothing infront of the reality. Meanwhile Bengalies remain complacent and keep on looking for faults within themselves. Why are u surprised with the "decline" in limelight then? Satyajit Ray warned of it. Opportunities, Resources and Capital has been stripped off of bengalies conveniently. So why the surprise? If bengalies had understood him instead of worshipping him, there would be a difference. Besides, I wouldn't say there is a complete dissolution of intelligentsia. It's just that Delhi centric hindi imperialist media doesn't show it much. They ignore Bengali scientists making breakthroughs ,even proving Stephen Hawking's theories wrong, but will go on and gloat about interviews about IIT toppers from North India and then based on their lack of ignorance will rant there isn't anything happening in Bengal nowadays. Then there is a political enmity of Indians towards Bengal too. Purely , a game of narrative. Self Depreciating rants that bengalies have been moaning for decades only added to their weakening and benefit for the people who peddled it.

It’s such a pity that Indian cinema has not progressed much since then. The good to bad films ratio is like 1:999. We as a audience have not evolved much too n we r still enjoying the nonsensical movies which Bollywood (khans, Kapoors) , South Indian (RRR, KGF, Bahubali) make. Malayalam n Tamil industries are trying their best with their story oriented movies but we still aren’t there yet. To reach to the level of Hollywood or Korean standards and technology the Indian filmmaker’s should quickly evolve n change their thought process drastically.
@anjay1075

If your implication that Indian Cinema has not progressed much since, then I must say that is questionable, since regarding what ? Story, technology or something else. Also why compare to Hollywood or another movie industry, in fact they themselves have their big blockbuster similar to the Indian cinema, and both celebrate those movie in the similar way. Also on a different note movies can be intuitive, Intriguing and altering, but not all movies have to be the greatest out there or the post surreal experience you've had.

Aww shut up....Korean cinema?? Ha ha ha ha...just because of a few Oscar nominations, right?? There were better films made in Bengali cinema in the 50s & 60s than were made anywhere else in Europe or the Americas. It's a pity that the rest of India had absolutely no inkling of those films. And I am not talking about the Mrinal Sens, the Rays and Ghataks. They weren't born out of vacuum. Stop being so self-deprecating all the time......or worse still, being such a kiss-arse.

@@ghostboy_9229 It is perfectly alright for more than one person to be good and not be able to replace each other. Your thought process is like that of an edgy child.

The last of the Bengal Renaissance. Imagine how many Noble Prizes Bengalis would've won if the British Empire was still there. Instead the Bengalis are now oppressed by the semi literate Hindi speakers.

Mr. Ray is speaking with an Indian accent only. Because there is no standard Indian accent, it's the Mother Tongue Influence (MTI) .That's why you can usually tell which part of the nation someone is from by their speech. And then there are people with no MTI or cadence. We hear people with an accent like Mr. Ray at professional places, especially in corporates. Mr. Ray sounded like an Englishman because we Indians follow British English.
