She was like an elder sister. Her parents had the luck to bear a son much later andl he became the gift to her mother.

All lies and misinformation. She suffered from anorexia and also overuse of laxatives. Her syphilis did not return, in fact later medical research showed it was highly doubtful she ever had syphilis at all. Most of her health problems were self-inflicted. She weighed 60 lb when she died.

It's difficult to know fact from fiction. I've read that Denys Finch Hatton and Berkeley Cole were bi-lovers. Regardless of these people's flaws or perceived flaws, they certainly seemed to have lived extraordinary lives!
