One of my party members tried to command word the demogorgon and was almost killed in Slobludop. He ended up throwing Shuushar at Demogorgon which distracted him long enough to escape.

@@TwistedTentacleInn I may be pushing my luck, but it really made my day that you answered me. I was wondering if you had any criticism with an idea I had with out of the abyss. So my party just made it to Blingdenstone and I am preparing Mantol-Derith right now just to get ahead of the game and I was thinking about Fraz-Urb’luu stuck in the gem and if I wanted to make him have a bigger role in the story. My idea is that, when or if they break the gem, Fraz-Urb’luu alters himself into a Celestial and deceives the party to allow him to come along to Gravenhollow. My Paladin likes to cast his detect demons/aberration thing so they wouldn’t suspect a thing (Fraz-Urb’luu is immune). When they get there, Vizeran is pretty suspicious of the Celestial and the Celestial is attempting to convince the players to kill Vizeran. In the end, something happens, like the players use their stone speaker crystals and figure out where Fraz-Urb’luu is at the present or Vizeran casts Dispel Magic in order to reveal his true form. They’d have to fight in Gravenhollow, which may be bad but at least they’d have a cool encounter with a demon lord. So what do you think? I think it’s be pretty memorable but I really don’t know, I’m a little new at this 😬

I really like the idea! You'll have to really play up the deception because players can be very crafty and suspicious. I think if you want the celestial to try convince the group to kill Vizeran, it might be best if you trick them into thinking it was their idea to do so. The way I would do this is to make the "Celestial" be neutral with Vizeran (as a necessary ally, despite their differences). Then, have the "Celestial" continuously create situations where the players find (fake) clues implying Vizeran is going to betray them. Things that aren't so obvious, but can nudge the players to to come to their own conclusion of a betrayal. Vizeran can deny the accusations and the celestial can egg the players on. This idea you have can end up being a really fun twist in your game. I say go for it! - The Innkeeper

Fair points all. My players enjoyed the madness, although they're used to such mechanics from playing Delta Green and Call of Cthulhu. But I can see how removing agency might be an unfun thing for some people. - The Innkeeper

The pcs don't have a map of the underdark, so there is no reason they would know where Blingenstone is at the start. So it should be a priority, but they would have no idea that it is our where it is, if that makes any sense. - The Innkeeper

Yes i kind of figured that they are lost but it says in the book that sarith, jimjar, tips and tops know the way to blingenstone (which makes sense). I think i will just tell my players that a large area of the underdark is controlled by drow so the safest way to blingenstone is via kracklslug.

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to read through the book so that you have a basic understanding of the story structure. This adventure is very good, but it's not organized very well, so you definitely have to make some major adjustments. Don't drag your sessions out by doing a lot of travel, even though the book recommends random encounters and a lot of travel. This will bore your players and they'll quit the campaign. What I did was one session with travel and encounters and after that I mostly summarized the travel portions. My players seemed to enjoy this and still got the gist of the survival aspects. I recommend checking out the excellent "Shane plays" out of the abyss, where he did summary reviews of each session during his campaign. It took him 2 years to complete it, so there are about 80 videos (each between 30 minutes and 2 hours). It's a great play-by play that can help you structure your campaign.
