Feels like catching up with an old mentor and friend. Wisdom like his is fading from this world day by day...

Perhaps not Johan. You are his student.

I see a lot of people comment on videos like Malcolm's such hopeless and resigned things as "there is little wisdom like this left!" or "people like this are growing fewer and fewer every day," and I just want to say, have hope! There are still good people in the world, and you can find them. But you must search, search for the wisdom around you. One day, having taken the path you are likely to take from the place you are likely to come from, you may find that new students seek out your wisdom.

I'm currently on the last night of a business trip before heading back to the UK,, frazzled, tired and alone in Rome. I suffer from depression and anxiety and so wanted to thank you for creating a safe, familiar and welcoming space that people can visit any time and from afar. Your videos always help and bring a smile to my face. I also now occasionally smoke a pipe (probably partly due to your videos) and made sure I bought one of mine with me - an old Peterson System Smooth 317 that I restored and a tin of Peterson's Early Morning Pipe :)

I have no idea what book you are reading but do know the Coleridge poem. My Peterson pipe, a gift of my dad, got stolen off a study desk in 1967. CS Lewis? Narnia?

“Looked along the shaft of light”- meaningless to me as a child, but as an adult who has read Lewis’s essay on the concept, this unexpected phrase in the passage was the cherry on top of this greatest of eucatastrophes.

Oh, how I have longed for more Lewis! How could one man be blessed with so many gifts, and then use them so well? Not only was his far famed imagination rich with the fragrance of paradise, but he was not fanciful nor devoid of intellect. He could think as carefully, critically and logically as any analytic philosopher, and yet could present his ideas with the clarity and humility befitting true intelligence. Not dry were his thoughts, (as most modernism was) but nor were they mere mysticism. His writing was as balanced as the old theory of four humours; cool logic balanced with warm feeling; solid, dry ground of fact and good morals, combined with the living moisture of imagination. I long to be able to express myself as he did. Oh let's have more Lewis. Oh do let's!

I work at home in a small room as a writer and rarely see people so your videos enable me to escape my den and enter into a neighbour's house (your house) and they (you) are chatting with me. Uplifts the spirit. Thank you so much for 'inviting me over'! Keep 'em coming!

Christmas and Advent in general are a wonderful image of that light that waits for us and spawns at the darkest moments. It's not a coincidence that the winter solstice aligns with Christmas. Its an inflection point in the year as well as in history.

Grew up on the Narnia books; Read "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" for class last semester but never contacted it to Lewis. Love your content. Keep it up!

Thank you for bringing back the beauty of this passage. I was inspired by it dozens of times in my youth, but in the few times I've read it as a adult I was impatient and distracted by the fairly obvious plot and message. Your reading has brought back to me why I found the plot and message to be obvious: it is stated so well here that it became axiomatic.

One of the hardest lessons to learn. God will always come through for us in any storm, we just need to have enough faith to wait for his perfect timing. Remember when Jesus calmed the storm when the deciples were with him on the boat. Mark 4 35-41

Esteemed Father Guite : Could it be that Lewis was making reference to the ancient christian symbol of the pelican as a symbol of christ? Your viewer and brother in christ: Joshua Valencia Ps: I would love to hear some experts from the Lord of the Rings ( and your take on them). As a catholic pipe smoker I tend to prefer it. However C.S Lewis is a must for all christian readers and pipe smokers most especially his theological writings. May the peace and blessings of our Lord be with you and aid you in your good work.
