i hate clear cutters lol might be nasty but thats the way i feel. nice video Dave yeah i remember the chickadees and the gray jays following me through the bush for hours sometimes not another sound except for my snowshoes and these little birds. 60 + miles from another human the silence was amazing on cold sunny calm days. most people would say it must have been lonely. but i can not remember ever being so. haha. thanks for the video take care.

I remember that incredible video where you caught TWO otters at the same time in the SAME trap. They were nose to nose trying to catch an artificial swim bait !!

Love your trap line videos! I have a question for you. I watched an older question & answer video you did and you talked about dying/waxing your traps and that you painted your traps in a paint/gas mix (1:5 ratio). Do you have a video explaining this process? If not, could you be specific to the kind of paint and do you dye your traps then paint them? Back then you said you didn’t wax your traps. I like this idea and would like your input on this. Keep the videos coming, they are very fun and informative!😀

It’s sad to see the devastation left behind by loggers. I’m in northern Ontario and they’ve done the same here. The governments don’t seem to do much about it.

Martin do not like any encroachment & loss of habitat. This is the greatest threat to all wildlife that cannot co-exist with development. In 10- 20 years if left alone, that cutting operation will draw in moose and deer like a magnet. Martin though will need the forest to mature before they move back in. Happy trails Dave.

All that logging is so unfortunate. I was hunting a cut similar to that in the ducks this deer season and almost saw more moose sign then deer.

Are they required to replant or re-seed the vast acres of cutover? Do the Canadian Provinces cover up for the logging industry?? Are these logging operations on Provincial or Private properties?? Thanks!
@trappingworld6463
@trappingworld6463 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the land will all be replanted within a year. And in about 15-20 years it will be a good area for lynx bur not marten for much longer than I will be alive.

When they come in and strip the land, do they ever plant seedlings or just leave the land the way it is?

My trapline is between a plywood mill and a saw mill. So sustainable logging practices only exist on paper, there is profit to be had. The sustainable marten harvest on my line went from 65 to 5 due to that logging over the last 10 years. Sad to say the least. I figure the forest industry owes me at least $50,000 in losses, not to mention the accumulated losses my kids are going to have. Ill never see a penny. Total horse shit.

What about south of Elk Lake where the large forest fire went through? Who owes the trapper for the losses there? How many Martin are there now? We can’t expect the trap lines to be mature forest all our life. That said, there needs to be a balance, but on what scale?
