Gabriela Ruiz's practice embraces a Do-It-Yourself work ethic familiar to her from her youth, one which expresses the vibrancy of Mexican cultural and artistic traditions.
She employs everyday materials and blends a diverse range of mediums, using color, sound, and texture to create environments that allow a full immersion of the viewer in the worlds she creates.
Her multimedia artistic practice is centered around issues of identity, the body, desire, and self-fashioning.
